Hello fellas,

I'm searching for a police kit for my XP to bring it back to original... I'm thankful for every hint you can give me (either you have one or you know somebody who owns one...)

Thanks in advice!

Ride safe

Michael

What did you dealer tell you when you tried to order the kit?

I simply walked in . . . ordered the SPECIAL DUTY decal, light and siren switches and so forth . . .got them about 4 days later.

I suspect there were lots more of these parts stocked than were sold.

I'd start with a dealer.

Just curious... How much did they charged you for the stuff... I saw a new kit on Fleabay for $1500.... For this amount of money I rather buy another Buell...; )
But thanks for helping me out and give me a tip!

Regards

Michael

Paul has a kit, I think python Paul may be his forum/eBay name.

$1500 is fair price! They were $2500 new.
But there are a lot out there hidden away never made it to bikes. I have a complete kit but will not sell it.

Thanks Jeff for the heads-up! Two members here talked about $250-$350 for the kit.. So I thought I could find one around that price... Looks like I have to save a little more money for it as expected.. Anyway... I wouldn't sell the kit also if I were you...!

You can also do precisely what Buell did and simply buy the parts and pieces from Whelan . .. there was nothing that wasn't an off the shelf item.

I>n addition, I suspect there is an ample supply in dealers since so few sold.

i know people were talking about them a few years ago when they were still readily available, but seeing how they do not make them anymore and harley doesn't have any left the price is going to reflect that.

I have a complete xp trunk kit brand new in the box with lights and the siren which is very rare to find. ill do 1200 for it.

as for buying the lights and stuff from whelen the light lights are $60 each x 12 and the larger are $175 x 2 thats $1070 right there just in lights

That's about right for the lights. I had a box of the leftover TIRs from when we were making the police kits and I do recall that the Whelan heads weren't cheap.

The bigger question is why . . unless you are just wanting to play tommy cop . . . anyone would even need the stuff.

But then . . . I suspect I am one of the few who's ever dealt with the legal entanglements of "impersonating an officer" buy riding a Buell decked out with cop lights. I got out of it . . . but it was a bit ugly.

I put a set of the TIR heads on on my hand guards of my Uly (amber) for turns signals and to draw attention from oncoming traffic. I mounted a red TIR head on the truck for additional visibility on the brake light.

You might try running the parts number through the HD system . . . I suspect there were more of the made than ever sold and the kits will be laying out there somewhere on dealers shelves.

I spoke to the county lieutenant and he gave me the ok. Said as long as the fronts are blue and tail light is red I'm good. No red lenses on the front. He's actually a harley guy and was very amused with my bike. Loved the horn.

The reason I want the kit is now that I own a XP I want to have it as "original" as possible... And answer the "police and legal" question: I'm German and going back in 2 years. Over there it's a little bit easier riding with the lights though I will have to cover the front red&blue ones... Btw, looks like I'm lucky.. Just browsed the EBay classifieds (Germany) and found a kit for 450 Euro... Was mounted on a "converted" Uly... ; )
