Here is a video of the motor running before we pulled it out and replaced it with a new 2008 motor. I’ve also included photos of the stripped down bike, followed by completed upgrade to 2008 motor. If you have any questions please give me a call at my mobile.

Pretty cool, I like to see people doing these motor swaps!
I did this with a 2005 bolt, everything under the plastics is 2009 parts

Going to be doing another 2009 motor in my 06 uly once I find a wire harness that's not messed up. My bike is sitting on 30k now.

Good job getting a video, should have no problem selling the motor at that price. Easily money to be made by parting it out.

For my motor swap, the wiring harness replacement was most of the work. Unfortunately the 2008/2009 motor had a few changes to the fuel pump connector on the harness so I decided to swap out the wiring harness as well.

We had to take apart most of the back half of the bike as you can see by this photo to get the wiring harness replaced. The fan even had to be pulled out. Invested five weekends into the project and since the Chicago Winter of 2013/2014 was so crappy we had plenty of indoor garage time to get it done. There is no way I could have gotten the wiring harness and motor swap done w/out my friend Tim who brought great knowledge and many needed tools to the project.

Here is the bike completely stripped of motor and wiring harness:

2006 Uly wiith no engine or wiring harness!

If I were to attempt an engine upgrade again from 2003-2007 to 2008-2009 again, I'd recommend skipping the wire harness upgrade and simply splice into the existing 2006 wiring harness fuel pump connector wires like others had done to avoid the labor intensive wiring harness swap out.

On the positive side, I pretty much have a brand new Ulysses at this point that will last another worry free 8 years. I do lots of long trips and needed a super reliable bike again. I've had two worry free long trips with the new motor + harness + shocks rebuilt and the refurbished Uly has performed flawlessly.

Ishai,
Thanks for your interest. The EBR RACE ECM has been on the bike for about 15,000 miles and it is the setup for the stock Buell Exhaust. I had it protected against seat rubbing and it is in good shape. New, I think it was approx $250 or so.

This ECM will only work on a 2003-2007 XB12 motor. EBR no longer makes the EBR RACE ECM for the 03-07 XB12 motor and is only selling RACE ECMs for 08-09 and 10 XB12 motors.

You would need to complete a TPS reset on the ECM after you install it on your bike (about $70 @ your HD/Buell Dealer) if you have one who still maintains Buells.

I would like to sell the EBR RACE ECM with the motor as this makes the most sense for the perspective motor buyer, so let's give it a week before I sell it separately to you.

Regards,
Marc

Thanks for the info. How did it work for you? Please let me know- TPS reset is not a problem for me. I am interested. Did it make a noticeable difference for you? Can you elaborate?

Ishai,
With the EBR RACE ECM, I noticed an improvement in mid range smoothness and mid range power delivery. The top end did not feel any stronger, but I did not do any Dyno runs to check this. For the mid range improvement alone, I have always upgraded from stock Buell ECM to the EBR Race ECM on my two XB12 Buells (with stock exhaust). I felt an improvement both times.

Is the EBR RACE ECM a massive improvement...no. But it is a noticable improvement. Check some posts and you will get validation from others on the ERB RACE ECM. I have also seen small MPG improvements with the EBR RACE ECM which is proof that the EBR RACE ECM gets more performance out of each gallon.

I would also recommend you get a 2007-2010 airbox which has more air entry holes, or simply drill out more holes on your existing 2003-2006 airbox to allow in more air. Many folks I know have used a 1 inch drill bit on the sides of the 2003-2006 airbox to cut more plastic holes and improve air flow to the intake. You will hear and feel a difference with the 2007-2010 airbox in comparison to the 2003-2006 airbox. The sound from the airbox after my first ride with the airbox upgrade was also magical! You can find posts on 2007 airbox upgrade in badweb as well.

Don't like it? Buy 'em before I do. Pretty simple.

And this motor isn't for me. It's for a friend with a "blowed up" XB.
