I talked to him Wednesday, but he never called back like he said he would. I guess I'll pulverize him slowly, and try to talk him down a bit. That bike is going to need a LOTTT. | ||

He is a bit unrealistic on the opening bid. I haven't seen an RS in top condition break 6 grand. | ||

In top condition, I've seen em break a decent price. I'm looking for a rider, and this bike would fit the bill.... At 2500 or 3000 tops. Even then, I don't think I was getting a bargain, considering what all has to be gone through to make her road worthy, not to mention the cosmetic mountain of things wrong. | ||

I saw it in the flesh and posted the other thread. without a lot of Buell knowledge I'd say the thing was not worth $2k.. it was ratty looking with broken and bent parts.. I thought of it as a parts bike..and laughed at that price as I walked away..however it was the ONLY Buell at the swap meet. for $5k I could get a really nice XB w/under 20k miles right here in Minnesota. | ||

I like the idea of having an affordable RS1200 to keep, but when it comes down to it, when all is said and done, this bike will have cost more than a nice one. I contacted the seller the first day this "1200RSR" came up on eBay, explained what it will take to bring it up to snuff, and offered $2K for it, politely. I would probably go $2,5K, but that's where I'd let it go. | ||

It'd be a nice one to save. Shouldn't be,other than a couple challenging pieces, that tough. I've seen them go from about $4K to $25K. I **think** I know where about a dozen unsold ones might be hiding. Still a great looking bike . . . . I bought 2 of them new and rode my red one to tour construction jobs and deliver paychecks weekly. The "flip seat" was really handy. Fun to look at and still classic lines. | ||

25K huh? That must have been a gold plated one from Sadam's vehicle stash! This is the most recent one I've seen, didn't sell on Ebay at opening bid. That one in FL that was part of a dealer collection was going for 12 Grand about a year ago...I consider that the high water mark for price and condition. It was 0 miles and had never been registered. I talked myself out of it because I want a rider and something like that needs to be on display somewhere... That, and, you know...TWELVE THOUSAND DOLLARS.... | ||

A dozen? Holy crap.... I'd jump on one if it wasn't so tough to make one road worthy. I would imagine I would have to split cases and replace bearings on something sitting over 20 years..... Or would I? | ||

Not too long ago, a fellow Badwebber offered his Westwind here -- due to pending divorce, if memory serves me -- for about $6,800. It was red, like the one on the cover of Court's book, and I felt the itch to get it, but couldn't justify it to the wife as I just had bought a very expensive car. I've never seen one offered for $25K, but about a year ago there was one on eBay that made my heart stop for close to $10K. Keep in mind, fellers . . . you can buy a pretty darn nice Harley or Ducati for that. It takes a true enthusiast to spend the same money on a Buell. Unlike the newer model Buells, that attract many buyers because of the rather low price, a Westwind is rather expensive. That being said, and while I agree that buying a bike for investment purposes is a really bad idea . . . if there's one Buell that will go up in value in the next 10 or 15 years, it's a "minty" low-mileage Westwind. | ||

The rings may have collapsed, the clutch would likely be stuck, but a gentle pre-lubrication of everything would get most of the stuff ready to go. The good part about building a sport bike with a 1950s tractor engine is that, well, it is a 1950s tractor engine.... If the engine will spin at all, the bottom end bearings would be fine in that scenario. If it was stored outside, next to the ocean...well, that would be a different scenario, but since we are talking about "unsold" bikes - I would think they would be stored in a warehouse, in a crate. | ||

Nearly every part on it is common the the 1,000,000+ Sportsters made over the years . . . . challenge would be the body work. But it can be done. I don't see stickers, which can be reproduced for less than $20 if needed, being a . . . . (drum roll) sticking point. I have all the service manuals, parts manuals and owners manuals for all the RS and RSS's . . . . It'd be a labor of love on this one . . fortunately that love is out there. | ||

If this bike would be here in Europe I would buy it instantly. Most or all original parts are there. I bought some RSS in a much more sorry stat for much more money. Its just a love affair you know. This bike is a very nice winter work. Im glad to help on the restauration Basti from Germany |
