I was trolling on ebay and came across the Touratech mount for the Garmin Quest.

These things have made me laugh since they were first introduced, they have to be one of the most absurdly over engineered, over priced, and overly complex pieces of GPS mounting ever conceived of. And they look to be REALLY well made. So while I would never have paid retail for one, I liked the things just because they were so absurd but still so functional. Kind of like watching a guy successfully play football while successfully balancing a stack of plates on a stick. Its the sillyest thing ever, but boy, is that cool!

Anyway, I found one on ebay and made an offer on it... and ended up winning. Total cost to my door was $60, more than I wanted (they dinged me for shipping from Canada), but still worth it to me just to be able to laugh at such a silly but cool part on my Uly.

But if anyone did ever have a burning passion for one of these things and desperately wants it, PM me an offer. I look forward to putting it on the Uly, but I don't actually need the thing (the plastic RAM cradles work great for $12, and I have several already). For $60 I'll keep it, but I'd part with it for less than the $200 Touratech wants. ; )

It looks like it is like this one, but silver:

(I should have it in hand in a few days).

Locktited with "Touratech Adventure Loc-tite". It's orange instead of blue. And costs $1000 per ounce. OEM on the 2014 BMW GSA. ; )

LOL. In order to attach the power cord, you had to remove three screws with bolts and plastic stand offs, which had nuts that were recessed and needed a nut driver. Then you had no less then two plates and an intermediate shim, with instructions in German only, that had to be installed in a stack without falling apart and held by two more screws with two more nyloc nuts.

The piece de resistance? The nyloc nut was a 5.5 mm nut. Not 5mm, not 6mm, not the normal UJM 8mm, not even 7mm like the other nuts. 5.5mm. Seriously.

So much over design, so much attention to absolutely unnecessary and useless function, so many layers of things on other things that don't do anything... It is such an insane piece of kit, I love* it!

(Love being defined here as only being about half annoyed that the thing ended up being $60 to my door)
