I have a 2000 buell X1 and would like to purchase a Steering Damper Kit. New ones are way out of my price range $400.00 + Any ideas

Ideas I have for you.

Post a wanted ad here hoping someone has one they wanna sell. Check.

Watch ebay for one, seems to be one every 6months or so.

low budget option and it works fine on a S1

I bought 54mm steering damper bracket cafe clubman motorcycle, sold by http://myworld.ebay.com/ebaymotors/speedmotoco

was packaged from http://www.pingelonline.com/

I also bought frame bracket steering damper from speedmotoco - only because it was last one they had - had to put rubber backing so it would fit snug

Then I bought from fireman Jim a GSX steering damper used - you can find em on ebay

works great
