Like the title says, I'm looking for someone to trade me their XB12S suspension and kickstand for that on my XB12SCG. My bike has 8700 miles on the odo and is in great condition. Just need more ground clearance. Any interest? Located in Easton, PA and willing to travel if need be (or vice versa to do the swap at my place).

Would XBR parts work? What year is the bike?

Firebolt parts will definitely work. My bike is an 05. What is yours?

I have an 03 XB9S, I believe all 03 and 04's have the smaller forks, as well as ALL years for any "low" version ( SL or SCG ).

So a swap with a regular 03 or 04 would be the easiest as you can leave all the trees on your own bike. ( pretty sure atleast )

I happen to have an 03! Forks just rebuilt by a Buell pro. ( not even back on the bike yet, sitting under the work bench )

I'd trade ya, but we'd have to mail as I'm in TX.

Just let me know and good luck!

Robert,

You are correct about the fork diameter and years - as far as I can tell. However, I've read that the top clamps are the same across all years, but the bottom changed to accommodate the larger forks. Not sure if this is correct. If so, it should be an easy enough swap to do the fork legs and lower triple as an assembly. I'd prefer to get the larger diameter, but it's not essential. I believe I've found someone local, but we are still working out the details. If it falls through, I'll let you know.

Has the shock been upgraded as well? How much weight was the fork sprung for? Revalved? Who did the work?

Nick

My bike is an '04 so I have the smaller diameter forks, not sure what the SCG has? 4300 miles/in NY.

All years SCG have the smaller forks (41 mm).

FWIW, I measured the fork tube OD at the upper and lower triple clamps...they both measure the same, which if memory serves me correctly is 54 mm. Sorry, I'm too lazy to walk to the garage to check right now. But I believe that is right. Not sure what the larger 43 mm fork tubes measure.

Would I lose any cornering/handleing with the different spring/forks?

According to Buell's website, the rake and trail remain unchanged. The wheelbase shrinks by 0.2" and height drops. At the limit, the bike will have less cornering clearance. Not sure how much, and not sure how far you push the bike, so it's hard to say if you'll notice it.

You will notice. You scrape pegs sooner. It is somewhat stiffer also. Swapped mine out a few years ago. I like it better but the clearance loss sometimes irritates me.

I switched the suspension and forks out on my 05 Scg and my wife's 05 city-x. We're both extremely happy. Everything fit just right and I don't think I've lost anything in the handleing department. In fact, I ride better because the bike fits me better!

Jeff,

Did you swap the upper triples with the forks? Just curious if the bores are the same diameter or not.

I know the shock and possibly the forks are valved a little heavier for the shorter travel, just wasn't sure if the "R" was tuned more performance oriented while the "S" was softer for the street?? If they are pretty much the same, lemme know 1324, I am about 1hr 20min. from you. (I got my Firebolt used from Crossroads HD). We shouldn't have to change the uppers.

Augustus74, I think I may be swapping with a local rider. I need to finalize some details with him, but it is looking more and more tangible. If this doesn't happen, I'll gladly swap with you. I'll update this thread accordingly.
