I'm gauging interest in my bike. If I don't get any bites I'll part it out.

I have a 2002 Buell X1 that needs a little TLC. It has 6677 miles on it. The guy who owned it before me did a "custom" fender eliminator job on it. It has a race ECM, Force intake, PM rims, Vance/Hines pipe, corbin seat, and a SS front brake line.

Here's the bad news. The motor needs work. How much? I don't know.

I left my neighborhood and got about a 1/4 mile into my ride one day and the motor cut off. I can crank it but no joy. I get home and look over the bike expecting a ground cable to be loose. I pull the plugs and find the culprit. The front cylinder let go. The plug was dented. So I assume the front rod gave out and put the piston into the head. The rear looks good though.

So what is a good price? I'm hoping for $3500. Make me an offer. I am in NE Florida-St. Augustine.

Serious offers email me at air2mud46@yahoo.com

It would be a shame to part it out but if you do decide to go that route let us know. I will take a few items like the seat, Forcewinder, shift linkage, etc.
Good luck either way.

I am willing to go $2K on the bike...

No telling on the repairs... thats what is going to SERIOUSLY hurt the price of the bike...

ohh.. and I am located in SOUTH GA... so i have NO issues with picking it up.

Matt.

I didn't read the entire post the first time....6677 miles and it threw a rod!?
How could that happen? Overeved the motor?
What a shame..

Why do you think it threw a rod? Usually if that happens it will exit the case or grenade the cylinder, leaving an obvious hole and a trail of oil/mangled metal.

A rod lets go with a bang, you'd have heard something.

Was there any metal melted to the spark plug end? Usually motor damage will show that, even a cooked piston.

What happens when it cranks? Does it turn over? Are the plugs firing?

Honestly a bent electrode might just be a fluke, stranger things have happened with Harley motors and twitchy throttle hands.

I'm just offering my unsolicited opinion, you will sell it easier if you find out what the issue is and there are some things you could do for free that are easier than taking it apart and boxing up all the parts, remembering who needs what, contacting #2,3,4,5 on the list when the first guy backs out and #2,3,4 disappear, taking a hundred photos, lugging it all to the UPS counter, etc.

Not to mention trashing a good-looking bike.

You could also do a compression check for free, get the back wheel in the air and put it in gear, pull the plugs and spin the wheel. If you don't have a buddy with a compression tester you can just put your finger over the plug hole as you spin it, let the rear piston blow your finger off the head, then try the front.

You can at least then say something like "no compression" or "compression seems ok in both cylinders," "plugs fire but motor won't start," "plugs aren't firing but has good compression," etc etc.

Even pulling the rocker box to see if the valves move up and down is easier than parting the bike out.

Usually the motor is what makes the most money in a parted Buell, if your motor is undiagnosed "fried" you won't be getting much for that, especially considering the cost of shipping it. Once your front end and spiffy goodies are gone to the feeding frenzy, minus shipping charges, the rest is just chump change....

As others have said I'm skeptical that you lost a rod, especially at 6600 miles and especially if the factory ignition is still in place. Hell maybe you lost the timing rotor. A little investigation on your part can go a long way if you can't find a local buyer with a trailer and a lowball offer. There are plenty of people here who would be happy to answer any questions if you are willing to do a little work.

Good luck and if you part it I'd like the battery tray, please.

The battery tray on an X1 is welded to the frame.
