Technically they fire it and test it for a few miles before they crate it :P

No kidding? There isn't a mark on the pistons. I know that they fire and test run it when they get it OUT of the crate at the dealer before they put it out on the floor.

I gave my old manager at HD here in lubbock a call and he told me that the bikes get an electrical test before leaving the assembly factory, meaning that they turn the key to make sure the ignition, etc. is in good working order but the engine is never turned or fired... they want the dealers to do all the running and riding inspection when they take it out of the crate. Thats why even brand new Harleys have a few miles on them.

Is it possible that he could be wrong? maybe... he can be the smartest guy in the shop and the dumbest all at the same time! LOL.

It's been a while since I've been thru the plant, but I know they ran every Sportster motor for a couple minutes at the end of the line. Not sure what the process is for big twins.
