I am looking for a good deal on a 97-98 x1. I would take a cyclone but, it would have to be a little hopped up. I don't mind the 99 x1's but I don't want fuel injection.

Well, Tom, theres good news and bad news. The bad news is that the X1's premiered in the 99' model year. The good news is that before that, there was the S1. Not fuel injected, but also not equipped with a seat for the weak of tush. You could always get the X1 and pull off the fuel injection and go back to a carburetor, but I would just keep it. The mileage is good and I'm sure that there are other benefits. X1-Guys, help me out here. Enlighten us to the virtues of the mighty X1 (I want one badly too!) and DDFI.

SORRY, I would like a lightning 96-98. I like the tube frame. But, like I said I like the carb. My buddy just bought a 99 cyclone. I have always rode a ninja but fell in love with the buell's. There is something about the raw look, sound, and performance of this machine that has gotten my attention. The only thing that I am wondering is the lighting that year span narrow around the tank area? I like the bulk of my buddies cyclone. Well if there is any out there your help would be great. As far as price range, I am not sure. Something that seems to be a good deal. It would go to a good home.

98 White Lightning has the wider tank. Little harder to find, but a VERY cool bike. Not that I'm biased...I own one, LOL. First of the Thunderstorm engine bikes, too.

Don't be afraid of the FI. There's alot to be said for the throttle response on it as well as fuel economy. Not to mention the performance pieces out there that you can use to remap the fuel curve for more power!!! I just happen to have mine for sale for what I think is a resonable price. Check it out in the for sale area.

Yeah, the EFI is fine, put the race ecm and a pipe like I did and just ride the thing. It runs the same at 8000 feet or 300 below sea level (death valley).
This is mine... I'm thinking I may have to let it go because I want an 1125 and wife says ONE bike blah blah... Here's me on my x1 during a "Tire Test"
Here I am doing a tire test on my x1

Mine is a 2000 X-1, no problems with the DDFI, I put on a part or two...

Forcewinder, American Sport Bike tank accents, polished wheels (I couldn't find any of those bitchin' PM wheels) undertail, race ECM, not it sports a force header too...way loud! I got an XB to ride to, but, its just not the same. Good luck!

I have owned a Cyclone, S3 and the X1. I would go for the X1 with EFI any day. Consider the carb =86 hp, the efi= 101HP. And, you get no stumbles, great throttle response, and I get 60mpg at 65mph. EFI really is a sweet set up.

I'm going to have to respectfully disagree with Court on this one. I realize that the X1 was introduced in '99 but I've not really had any problems with mine except for the factory recalls (which never were problems but had them fixed just the same) and the paper gaskets. By now most if not all the paper gaskets have been replaced and the bugs worked out if it has any miles on it.
When I bought mine the DDFI was a take it or leave it situation, it didn't have any influence on buying the bike but now I wouldn't have one without it.
Sorry but mines not for sale right now and does anybody know if a Badwebber got that sweet grey/orange M2 in Arizona earlier this month? Just wondering.

Hey Bjr229

S1Ws came from the factory with 101HP & it was carbed.

Consider the carb =86 hp, the efi= 101HP

Don`t know were you came up with that one.
If your talking about 97 and earlier bikes there was alot more to it than just fuel delivery.

98 & up came with T-Storm heads.

And the X-1, to my knowledge sported the lightened flywheels, and bigger cams than those in the carb bikes. I could be wrong.

Fuel injected bikes run a bit better in my opinion. Carbs are great for throttle response but have to be dialed in right. If not they can be worse than any FI bike. Both bikes are great, pick the one that talks to you. GOOD LUCK

my guess would be that he is comparing the cyclone HP spec to the X1 HP spec. If memory serves me right the S1 lightnings were spec'd out at 91HP and the S1W lightnings at 101 HP

I was always a metric rider till I rode my first Buell(XB12s) then I got my own (99X1). After I learned some of the "special issues" like the oil carson plug and the narrow band EFI and a couple other things, and adapted, there's nothing in the world like that kind of ride. The bike itself has saved me from my own riding skills. It's been a great time, I'll NEVER sell my baby!

In the mean time here is a link to a sort video of it. Also in this short amount of time my buddy bought a 99 m2 and he loves it. I will put a link to his video also. Thank you for all the info.
