Yes, it still needs plating/bracing for extreme use usually done at the same time wheelie bar mounts are added if being used for racing but the critical alignment part has already been done.

Several guys on the Sportster forum have done the same type of mod to extend their swingarm, and haven't had a problem with not having it braced.

I don't know what the stress difference from bike to bike would be, but the XL is a bit heavier.

swingarm walls are atleast twice as thick on a sportster swingarm.... i'll measure tomorrow when i get to the shop to get an exact difference...
