Runs very well at 20,324 miles...20,263 was by previous owner, probably over the road commuting judging by the DOT tires it had on.

600cc Radial Four Valve single cylinder
Dual carb setup (low-mid/high speed)
Supertrapp slip-on muffler
Front disc/rear drum brakes
Rear 130/90-17 Pirelli MT21 tire with DID rim
Front 80/100-21 Dunlop D755 tire with DID rim
Acerbis Barkbusters with integrated signals
Acerbis fork and disc protectors
Aluminum skidplate
Original Tank and plastics
Typical scratches on the plastic for such an old bike, headlight nacelle has a crack in the plastic, tank is in great shape.
Needs a new cable and speedo gear drive for the speedo to work, cable got snagged on the last ride and broke the speedo drive gear housing...easy fix.

I can measure it tonight. Offhand it is definitely shorter than modern dirt bikes. Sag is about 2" so that helps too for shorter inseams. I'm 34" and stand flat footed easily. 210 lbs on the rear shock helps a bit as well. : p

BTW, it is a DOT legal bike. I have the mirrors too. Just needs a plate on it. Title is clear. Just the thing for some DS riding.

this is a little more motor than she "needs" in a bike like this but i assume it's a pretty docile, friendly powerband, not "peaky," and also assume the bike is relatively lightweight in spite of the displacement?

That looks like one of the much desired Post-'95 KLR's. Let me know if you need a set of Stainless Steel fasteners for it. I have KLR stuff sitting around (work stands, manuals and the fasteners) that I don't use.

The KLR is one damn fine bike. . . it does NOTHING GREAT . . EVERYTHING GOOD . . and may hold the prize for "most unchanged years of production", the damn things just work well.

The ONLY fatal thing you can do to a KLR is fail to adjust the cam chain tensioner which is a 37 second procedure.

Watch closely . . . whenever anybody goes "around the world" on a bike it's either a GS or a KLR.

I have a soft place in my heart as the KLR was the first bike (just a couple years ago) that I really learned to wheelie. It's a simple matter of scootin' yer butt back 5", closing and opening the throttle and then doing the headlight in the trees dance. . . what a bike!

The motor is pretty docile for a 600, exactly why I got it as I was learning on it. It's air cooled if that explains the tameness. Its a linear and gradual build of power. In it's day it had 44 crank HP on the spec sheet. Over the years, I'm guessing it's down to 25 at the rear wheel. I use significatly less HP. The only time I get the 2nd carb to kick in is when I hit a fire trail and can really open it up. I ride tight single track with it so I'm constantly lugging the engine through the tuff stuff. So, I'm probably only using 15 RWHP most of the time.

I think it weighs in at 350 lbs. Right around what a current XL650R or XR650R weighs.

It's a kick start only with a decompression lever. It's not that difficult to do. I actually start it with the decompression lever pulled in. Fires up in a few kicks. I only ever had one difficult time kicking it over and that was before I cleaned the carbs and adjusted them.

A manual is included in the sale too.

Of note, when I bought it, I put on new head and valve cover gaskets, new clutch lever and cable and new tires (only ever been on the trails). Just adjusted the valve since I last rode it too. Easy stuff.

I'll shoot a copy of the adjustment procedure in the manual and send it to you.

You're gonna love the KLR. I'm kinda thinking about building one. My riding partner, who bought 2 new bikes last week, has this problem . . he never gets rid of bikes.

He literally wore out two KLR's and they are sitting behind his house (along with his Bandit 1200, Super-Busa, 3 Hondas and 2 DR-400Z) in the early stages of decay.

I think I could talk him (I'm sure I could his wife) in to just taking them. . . I keep thinking it'd be fun to start from scratch and do a bumblebee yellow city rocket.
