Hi folks. My name's Mitchell and I'm a complete bike novice. I have my heart set on a Buell XB for my first bike, and my birthday is this month. My Mom is going to co-sign a loan for a motorcycle with me, ASAP. That's why I'm thinking to buy a bike from a dealership would be best. I can get taxes & fees, maybe even a jacket thrown into the selling price. I have a helmet and gloves (that fit).

A few questions maybe y'all can help me with:

1) Does my local H-D salesperson have the power to search around (and get) a used Buell XB for me, and have it shipped down to Bloomington, Indiana (where I live)? For example my dealership has NO used Buells, could "Tony" my sales guy, contact someone like "Daves" (Dave Stueve) and get a used Buell sent down here?

2) If they were to do that for me, should I still try and negotiate price, or try to get a nice Buell jacket out of the deal?

3) If you could answer "Yes" to the questions above, post here or e-mail me at (randommcfly@hotmail.com).

Ideally I'd like a 2003 or newer XB9R, with at least 6 months warranty remaining, stock as can be, under or around $5000.

Thanks!
Mitchell

Hi Mitchell,

Welcome to Badweb. You'll like it here.

First question. Do you know how to ride a motorcycle?

As to your questions, dealerships can talk to each other, but I don't think they do. And they would both want some profit out of the deal too, so it wouldn't really work out very well for you.

You already know of Daves. Give him a call and see what he can do for you. You can also look in the classified section of this board. The warantee comes from the factory, not the dealer. So any HD/Buell dealer can do warantee work for you.

People ship motorcycles all the time, so it can just show up at your house if thats the way you want it. But (assuming you can ride), its more of an adventure to go pick it up. One way plane tickets can be pretty cheap.

Good Luck - Jim

Jim & Dave,

I'm 22, I'll be 23 in 16 days, and no, I don't know how to ride a motorcycle. I bicycle about 4-6 miles a day here in town, and I've always driven manual-transmission cars. I do know, however, that it's gonna take a lot of practice and patience to learn on my own, as well as take either the ABATE (of Indiana) or MSF course.

I could see how two dealerships both needing to make profit wouldn't make it very good for me. I gave Daves a call, but he must still be at lunch. : ) I'll try again here in a bit.

After talking with my local H-D salesguy, he re-assured me that used Buells with warranty CAN and WILL be serviced at my local dealership, and that I can have the bike I want shipped from anywhere in the country (at my expense) to their dealership. I'd prefer to find a used Buell at a H-D dealership in Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, or Illinois, where I can get financing and maybe a little negotiation.

Any more advice y'all would have for me would be great! Dave S., I'll call you back in about an hour. (Your hold music is unbearable) : )

Mitchell

I got a 03 Firebolt with 2900 miles I will sell for $5000.00 under warranty until June that can be extended from a dealer if you want it. I will just sell it to the dealer if you want.

Hello, I have a 2005 XB9SX CityX for sale on Ebay, over one year left on Warranty. Please see item # 4621756304. Great bike. If ever you can buy something still under warranty and from a private seller, that's the way to go. Dealers are only there to profit every penny that they can. Private sellers just want to see somebody get a good bike and pay off what they owe.
