I am waiting to pick up a new 04 Blast in January. ( and also for my e-mail confirm for this group).

I have been reading about the upgrades for more power. I would like to add a Pro-series exhaust and intake /w rejet. Also Buell offers the PS cam set. With these mods added how much additional power can I expect? Maybe later on I would think of adding the Nallins stuff etc.

I am hoping the Buell add ons will keep me within the warranty. The 04 has the 2 year unlimited.

Thanks !

I will not say all, but most dealers will still honor the warrentee - I would talk to the service dept. and see where they stand on the issue. Added power will be between 6 and 8 hp & 3 to 5 ft/lbs of torque. The cam - though not adding much to the top end, does make everything happen a lot quicker in the bottom and mid ranges - definately a worthwhile cam, a lot of folks say it is the cam the bike should have been built with - lol

So - that is probably worthwhile. I am sure I can get to know the bike and it's personality stock for a season.

Thanks for the info.

OK - so now I am looking at the 515 bolt on kit. EZ you posted that you have this kit. What kind of HP are you looking at now?

I guess I am offically hooked ( And I don't even get the bike for another 2 weeks!! )

Wsplrll,

Enjoy your new bike. MHO, put an exhaust and intake on it. It will wake the bike up. Ride it for a season with those mods. If you are not happy with the performance, you can always hop it up more with cams, big bore, headwork, and ignition.

The Blast is a great dancing partner that will have no problems keeping up with the bigger Buells in the really twisty stuff, it is simple to work on, easy to maintain, reliable for the most part, gets great gas miage, and will not likely cause you to lose your license.

That said, without some reall $$$ and riding skill, the Blast will not be a wheelie king, go 110 mph, or intimidate your riding peers.

That doesn't mean I don't love my Blast. I love it. It is the best dancing partner I've had in my 10+ years of riding. It will cruise at 75-80 all day long, and not tire me out after a 400 mile day of riding. As an added bonus, It's really fun when somebody on a "superior" motorcycle tells me how tough a time they had keeping up with me on a twisty road. I will keep my Blast for a long time to come.

The Pro-series exhaust alone w/out jetting is 4 hp per the factory - lol - so my numbers are not out of bounds, however, the question becomes - just the jug or the whole stage 3 kit? - there is a difference!

Wsplrll,
with the pro series intake you may want to have a bracket made to give the air intake some support or place some foam under the filter. Because the air intake is not supported the joint (the part that connects the air filter to the carb.) tends to rip, this happened to me and the tear had to be duct taped together. I just use the foam and I havent had any problems since. It would also be a good idea to bye a couple spare joints and carry one with you when you plan to go on long rides (just as a precaution) the spare joints are very inexspensive and very easy to remove and replace old ones.

That is pretty much what I was thinking. Get to know the bike and I will appreciate the changes as I go along. I don't know that I am going to be able to do all the technical stuff like some of you guys but it is fun to learn all this stuff. And like I said I don't even have the bike yet!

"Always here to argue" Thanks Ralph - I appreciate a good argument to keep everyone on their toes. I am eastern PA so maybe I'll meet up with you sometime.

I am sure that I will have many questions. This forum is great though and one of the reasons I am glad I decided to go with the Blast.

Thanks guys.

But wait.........another question I meant to ask.

Do you guys have an opinion on that crankcase breather tube re route? I read that rerouting the tube under the seat and capping with a K&N filter will help it run better?

( So little time so many questions. )

I didn't know rerouting it would make it run better, but I guess it could. More likely, it's better because stock the crankcase breather tube vents into the airbox, and shoots crud right at your carb. It's easier to just rotate the nozzle away from the carb, but the K&N cap would probably be better overall.
