I figure it's time to show someone Gristle, my 2000 Blast.

changes so far:

* engine port/polish/deck job
* yellow plastic removal
* aftermarket Sportster intake
* scooter tires
* Vance & Hines exhaust
* Corbin Gunslinger seat
* bar-end mirrors
* rejetted
* Cometic gaskets
* timer cover replacement, thrice

Maybe I forgot something. I lost three timer covers just because the screws rotated out, even with with Loctite. Yeah, this thing vibrates. My last replacement timer cover just snaps in, stead of screwing in, and it has stayed put. At that point, I was beginning to think I liked it better with the cover missing, but then the cover stayed.

I'm considering knobbies. I want handguards. I might want different mirrors, but I want to see how they look with handguards first. I want to replace the lights/plate mounting on the back. I'm trying to decide how best to hang ammo cans off the sides of the tail frame, as panniers. I'm still trying to decide whether to remove the rear fender/beltguard/whatever. I'm considering kind of an MX-style handlebar, in black. I think I want a grille over the headlight. I want LEDs for all the lights, eventually.

I'm actually wondering if I can (and should) convert it to kickstart. I'm seriously considering it.

I've probably forgotten some other crazy ideas I have.

If you can tell me how to get the image upload to work, I'll happily try that instead of the link.

EDIT: I checked with others who can open the link, so I'm not sure sure what's going on. It should be working in any browser (any browser that supports images, anyway) -- it's just a web URI that points to an image file.

I've been using: https://postimages.org/

After uploading, I use 'Hotlink for forums' and didn't even bother with the 'Insert link' button, I've found that the insert link just breaks the internet! Then I just pasted the forum hotlink directly into the message box

This is how I got this jpeg to show:

additional attempt at a link:

The End Of The Road (with different hosting)

(I give up.)

This must require some kind of permissions I don't have here, or something like that. I don't get it.

Your bike looks pretty sweet, by the way. Other than the tires and maybe the tank cover color, it looks pretty stock, but it's a good look.

(Maybe this site just hates my browser.)

The 2nd link works fine

I chopped off the cow catcher on my muffler, it was snagging rocks & getting the bike stuck. Bent the bottom up & welded it into place to act like a skidplate. When I had the front cut open, there's the main down tube that goes inside the muffler, continues down inside and turns rearwards to enter the center section. I cut that down tube just above the bend so it's now just dumping straight down into the front section. The stock flow path requires the exhaust to zig-zag fore & aft inside the muffler. My alteration allows the exhaust to flow directly into the outlet tube and out the rear. I also cut a pair of holes on the right side, at the very rear. This allows more of the flow to go directly rearwards in the rest of the muffler, then right out the rear. It's now about as loud as a Supertrapp and makes as much power

My rear turn signals are custom pieces I made out of steel tubing and LED's. They wont snag on branches. The front turn signals dont seem to have any issues, but my mirrors need to be flip down style for when I'm riding through heavily overgrown forest roads

Front forks are refilled with a heavier damping oil, so it doesn't bottom out on rough roads

I strongly debated getting a Corbin for my Blast; but never seemed justifiable for a "cheap" bike I planned to move on from. If I ever pick up another Blast to play around with I'd probably get the Corbin.

A Corbin seat and different handle bars completely transform the Blast from scooter to motorcycle. Night and day difference.

I added old-school-style (relatively low profile) offroad handlebars and attached one of the two stock mirrors to Gristle instead of using bar-end mirrors.

I swapped out the front incandescent turn signals for an LED set that doesn't stick out as much and has a grille style similar to the look of the Sportster air filter assembly I already had mounted on the carburetor.

I added Shinko 244 tires, after some discussion with Missionbolts about them. I love 'em so far. I did 70mph in a canyon with them today, following a riding buddy on his 1200cc cruiser.

Before the canyon ride, I got these pics of Gristle from the front, to showcase the three big changes so far this autumn (and, in one case, to highlight the fact northern Colorado is on fire):

These tires feel great on the bike when riding. I get a bit of road noise at about 40mph (and faster, of course), but it doesn't bother me at all.

The rear tire looks a bit oddly skinny when viewed from directly behind the bike, but that's not really a big concern.

I'm glad I got these. Thanks again for the recommendation, Missionbolts.
