Hey guys, I'm new to the forums and I know there have been multiple threads about this, but I'm in dire need of some guidance. So I was riding the other day and was going about 85 on the freeway when the "blast" I was having quickly turned to sheer dismay and my bike died. I figured I needed some gas but when I looked into the tank I could still hear a little bit of fuel. Anyway, I swallowed my pride and pushed it all the way to the nearest station and refueled. Still wouldn't start even on reserve. Checked the oil and it didn't even come up on the dipstick so I bought some from the station, no beans. Had it towed home and as much as I wanted to try to take the carb apart to "give it a good cleaning" I didn't. However I did take off the float bowl to see if it was obstructed in any way but it was clean as a whistle. Checked spark and it was good but still bought a new one to be on the safe side and bought some starting fluid with no luck. I noticed that the carb isn't sucking but kinda blowing out. When I try to start it, it turns over really fast and backfires every so often even with the starting fluid. I don't know what else to check for our what could possibly be wrong. Please if any assistance can be given, it would be EXTREMELY APPRECIATED.

I'd check your jets, make sure they're not clogged. But just a little background info would help i.e how long have you had it, is it stock, have you had any issues like this in the past.

I've had it about 2 months and as far as I know, it's bone stock. The only time this happened in the past was when I actually did run out of gas and I flipped it to reserve and it started right back up. But how would I go about checking the jets? Just asking makes me cringe, but do you think it could be a compression issue? Thank you for the response as well

Don't check your jets!
Turning over really fast and your other symptoms indicates you a serious engine mechanical problem. It could range from bad oil pump drive gear taking out other gears, stuck valve, sucked valve, broken piston, etc. but stop replacing things NOW! Get a cheap compression tester and/or put your finger over the spark plug hole and turn the engine over-that will give you a good indication of compression to start with.

It kinda depends on compression. DONT add more oil. It's probably overfull now anyway.

Well I drained the oil earlier today. I should probably get a compression tester. What should it be at for the blast? And thank you guys again for the help

Optimum would be 175psi. Marginal would be 110psi.
But I'm guessing you're down around 0. If it's turning over fast, you have a compression issue that's likely to show near 0.
It doesn't have to be an expensive gauge. My favourite looks like a dial tire pressure gauge with a rubber tip you hold in the spark plug hole. Easy and quick to use.

Well I went out to test compression today and thought I might as well check spark again too. The spark is a weakish orange color of sorts. I've read it's supposed to be blue. Anyway, I haven't had the chance to get to the store to get a comp tester so I put my finger a little bit above the hole and it blew it with a little bit of force, but when I put my finger all the way over the top, it barely moved. I'm assuming that's bad. Just hoping for a miracle, I put my hand over the carb, cranked the throttle, and hit the button and it backfired hard. I've heard somewhere that if you put a little bit of oil in the plug hole, it would mimic compression and the bike would intermittently start, I didn't want to try anything else until I checked in with you guys.

Oil in the cylinder will raise the compression briefly yes, as it helps compensate for bad rings. But being that it shut down on you while running indicates a bit more than just bad rings. Also a heavy backfire out of the carb isn't usually caused by bad rings

How many miles on your Blast? Is it stock (no modifications at all)? How many owners? Has it had the rear sprocket recall done? Has it been "49 stated" yet?

I'll be in Lake Arrowhead in April.

As far as I know, it it completely stock other than having the exhaust cover taken off. I'm the third owner I believe and it has about 35000 miles on it. I go to CalState San Bernardino so I live in that area right by the school.

I've been busy dealing with things in my fraternity as I'm vice president, so I haven't had the opportunity to really do anything with the bike. I'm thinking of selling and just getting a newer bike due to the fact that I'm sure I won't have the time to do a top end rebuild. I've yet to try the oil in the cylinder head yet, but I'll keep you updated with anything I try and want to try. Thank you so much yet again

Do the compression test without the oil first, otherwise you'll skew any further readings.
