Sorry, but we need a better description of your problem. All we know is something leaked and you pulled over.
Did the bike stop running? Did it smoke? Did it exhibit running problems? Brake problems? What colour what the fluid? Does it run?
Splatters along the front wheel and right side of the bike sounds like you had a brake systems rupture/failure. This is very uncommon.

Success Story!

Thank you to Gearhead, EZ and everyone else.

Have a 2001 Blast and took it in to a shop to have a V & H exhaust, jet kit, K & N filter and new spark plug and tires put on.

They did a good job with the exhaust but failed to diagnose EZ's "das boot" and gasket problem. Both were cracked and split.

Bike would cut off when idling you give throttle. Or when downshifting. Minor backfires too.

Fuel mixture was also off.

Took it to a local Harley shop and the guys fixed it for 130.00.

Props to EZ and Gearhead and HD Atlantic Blvd. in Jax.

Now my girl sounds great and runs like a dream. The V & H sounds awesome. Noticeable difference in HP and top end power with lower rpms than stock filter and exhaust and jets.

Thank you guys.

Hey guys, so I have been having this issue with my bike. Sometimes it will barely get over 80mphs. Other times it pulls ok through 70 to 83ish and then pulls better up to the 90-95 range. I am thinking it might be the auto-enrichner getting old and the plunger sticking to some extent after it turns on from cold starts? My bike just went over 26k on the odometer (did it in 4 riding seasons in indiana thank you very much haha). I just pulled the plunger and I didn't see any carbon on debris in there and the spring in it seemed to be working fine. What gives, do you guys have any ideas? Also when it is acting up in this way it seems to have some power loss at lower speeds as well (as would be expected).

Thanks!

I dont believe that would have any effect on high speed running whatsoever. I've never experienced it and I dont see any reason the AE could affect much above low rpm range. A 2007 with regular use is a poor candidate for AE failure. My first inclination is bad gas. Premium is a must and hotter weather can have a bad effect on high speed running, especially if you are stock on jetting.
Have you done anything to your Blast before this started happening?

And please do not take your carb apart to "give it a good cleaning". It doesnt need it.

It could be bad gas, but that means I am getting bad gas about half the time. I always use premium. The closest station to my house by about 5 miles is a speedway, and they have 93. I know its not the best gas, so maybe I just need to make a point to get shell (thats what I have experienced to be the best, so has my dad who has a hopped up Ulysses, any input?) and add SeaFoam for a few tanks and see if the problem continues? And I am always tinkering with my bike, from replacing the carb boot to replacing the bolt that fell out of my motor mount -which I just got done doing, I think the lock tight I used was bad. I did have my main jet clogging up on me, which I cleaned out a few times until it stopped clogging. Does the fuel tank petcock get clogged? And I checked, its not the main jet that is causing it this time. I have stage 2 head, v&h header and a magnaflo muffler, air box delete and iridium plug (which I think may be going bad, I know they are supposed to be lifetime but it is fouled and sparking purple) I will do some riding tomorrow and put shell in it with seafoam and let you guys know how it runs. Thanks for the help.

Best gas hands down is Chevron/Texaco, followed by Amco, then way in the BACK leading the other brands is Shell.

In this day and age, a bad brand of gas is very unlikely. I certainly wouldnt say you have to trade brands, you just have bad/contaminated gas. If you have jet cogging problems install a clear plastic inline fuel filter for extra protection and a visual check to see if you have a bunch of crap in your tank.

I asked the guys at the napa in town if they had heard anything about the local speedway having bad gas, they said they had a guy in the day before saying he got some bad gas there. I put marathon in there and some seafoam and the problem is solved. thanks for the advice. and btw we dont have amco or texaco here in indy that I can think of. its too bad.

Whoa... Haven't been here in a while. Once I got my Blast fixed and running well, I got myself into another new hobby (working out) and been busy with that, so haven't been keeping up with the other Blastards...

The Blast is running well. And I've been enjoying it quiet a bit -- trying to put more miles on the bike & my riding experiences. But the other day...
I took it out for a ride, and it started coughing at low speed (1st gear, mostly). I thought about taking it back into my garage, but I was really eager to ride, so I just rode it up to downtown LA. It didn't cough once I got it up to speeds higher than 30mph(?)
Well, after a nice visit with a friend, I got back the Blast at 1:00am, and started to head home -- with the Blast still coughing in 1st gear. While riding towards the freeway...with the bike coughing madly now...I tried to control it somehow with smooth clutch/throttle work. Then, I just jerked on the throttle! And... the bike died. And never started back up again. =(

Thank goodness for insurance!
I got the Blast towed home at 2:00am from downtown LA to Anaheim (27 miles) all covered by my insurance.

The next day I figure I'll tear it apart and start the diagnosis. The Boot, check. Ummm... what else could it be? I looked at the boot again. Looks OK. Besides, the boot is only about 4 months old. Well, just in case there's tiny crack that I can't see... I taped up the boot really good with electrical tape. Then put it back on the bike. No go.
Hmmm... check the spark plug. Looks good to me! At this point I have no idea what else to check. I put the spark plug back in...PRAY...and try starting the bike once more, and... Brrrrrrrooooooooom! It started!
Then it died because I had the fuel line turned off. Doh! I put the fuel to main, push the starter button, and... battery is dead. Damn! All those times trying to start it must've drained the battery! So I pull my car into the garage, jump start the Blast, and it started right up!

So... I have NO IDEA why my bike was coughing and eventually died. Can't blame the boot. It looked OK, and after taping it up, didn't do much. Can't blame the spark plug. It was sparking pretty good when I pulled it out and checked it. But maybe it was loose? I dunno...

I just wanted to let y'all know that I'm still riding and doing well. And (hopefully) improving my riding skills. =)

Oh, just saw this the other day. http://orangecounty.craigslist.org/mcy/3252347109. html
That person haven't gotten back to me though. What a beautiful bike! ...or it could be just a good photo job.

Best guess would be a loose plug wire that maybe you didn't notice when you pulled it off? And was the plug nipple screwed on tight?

After looked through this section I have seen nothing with my exact problem. I've checked the fitment of my new boot many times, its not a kinked or plugged fuel vent hose, it's not the plug, I've checked the fuel screen, poured seafoam in fresh fuel. I have a hard time thinking its s coil or ignition module its possible but they we're replaced less than than 10k miles ago. So here's the problem. At an idle it runs great, when I get on it it runs great, its when I'm in the low range of any gear it feels like it's running out of fuel. Any suggestions on a thread with this problem? To the recent fallen blasters heal well and soon. As always any help is greatly appreciated!

What exactly is it doing?
Give an example of a gear selection and speed.
Are you lugging the engine? It's not unheard of that people will lug the Blast, treating it like a low rpm high torque twin and be disappointed in its performance at low rpms.

What air filter are you running?

What octane fuel are you running?

The assumption that just replaced electrical parts can't be bad just isnt true. If you got an old stock module from the pack that didn't last very long, then the new one might not last long either. But they can go bad regardless.

How old is the spark plug?

Have you done anything (Anything?) that preceded this problem?

No lugging it down only seems to be happening at the lower end of any gear say 70 mph in fifth or 55 in fourth. I notice it mostly when I'm cruising alone. Never when I'm just getting on it. Premium fuel, new irridum plug, Whaley intake set up. Last thing I did was replace a cracked boot. It mean fine for a few hundred miles. Which is why I'm almost positive its not the boot. I understand about the electrical, but it acts nothing like when I replaced the ignition module.

I've been pretty meticulous about the boot. I even thought maybe I stretched the clamp so I wrapped electrical tape around it to get a better squeeze. Not letting me upload a photo it might be my phone.I bought the intake from a user on badweb Dan Whaley, thumpe I think his name was. Its been a while.

I bought the super boot as well. It finally gave out 250-300 miles ago. It looked to me that the boot it'd self was just a regular boot with the middle rise taken out. Yes, it is a great setup. Anyways I'm now on vacation, won't see the blast till Sunday. Have a great 4th of July!

Yes, it is a stock boot with the middle rise taken out, but with a much better clamp (which is what makes it a "super boot")!

Might be worth just buying a new superboot. I pulled off the old boot and inspected the superclamp, I didn't like the looks of it so I fabricated a new one. Its not as pretty as thumpe's but it seemed to work. I have yet to give it a real test ride as I was running it I lost a rear wheel bearing. Its my fault though as I forgot about the oak tree. I will let you know if this solves the problem. Thanks for the help.

Last test ride I lost a rear bearing. It still feels like its running out of fuel at the low end of any gear. I've been over the boot several times, even built a new super clamp. My thoughts are once a coil starts acting up the bike wouldn't even want to idle correctly. Possibly the same with a clogged jet. Unfortunately I'm no gas engine mechanic I work on diesel, ignition systems and carbs are foreign to me. Is there something in the carburetor that would cause the same symptoms of a boot failure? I read in a post above that it might be the diaphragm on top of the carb. Any chance of that?

Has it ever run right?
What is a Whaley intake system? There's been numerous problems with 'custom' intake systems, some of which werent intended for use on a Blast. Got a picture?
I'd like to see your intake before spending much more time on a diagnosis.
Have you shimmed the needle?
