No muffler per say, just a 3" Suppertrapp disc system with a spark arrestor and 35 discs, per Suppertrapp/Kerker when I called them - a lot of discs will level the sound to a certain volume -

Bike feels a lot lighter now eh? You know a works spring kit, gold valve emulators for a 2000 era Kawi Ninja 250, 7.5 fork oil, and a fork brace will allow your front end to handle as well as your rear - looking good though!

Way lighter! Front end is next on the list. It's 20 F#$%*@& degrees in Illinois, so that'll probably be a early spring time project.

The seat was a Corbin that I had reworked by a local shop to bring the pocket back almost 4" more - definitely only a single riders bike now. Break in is slow due to my knee but I have a procedure happening in January - 3 parts - that will make using the knee easier! Then I will be able to ride for longer periods. Break in is killing me because just as the bike is wicking up, at the 4000, I have to shift - lol - to keep it below that.

Here are a few pictures of my 07 Blast. I have only had it since fall, but I figured it would be a great first bike. It was a former HD riders edge trainer.

The day it came home.





I quickly found that the headlight was not going to work due to some damage to it and the brackets, and single headlight kinda annoy me. I need to remake the brackets holding the flyscreen on though.






Had an issue with the end of the shift shaft failing and the shift lever just kinda falling off. Fixed that issue until I tear back into the primary housing.

It worked quite well. I have a replacement shift shaft, just wasnt feeling like swapping it out at the end of the season. I will probably leave it as is until I get around to a rear set swap.

One of my biggest hold ups on the rear set idea is making the shift linkage. I am sure that I could find plate material to make the peg mounting brackets from, but making the shift linkage is going to be a project on its own.


If I can figure it out and make some rear sets over winter I will have to get a new handle bar as well.

My replacement seat arrived the other day. Looking forward to having the standard seat on the bike. The low seat was too low for me.

I found a lever and linkage from a XB9R. Once they arrive I might start looking into making the brackets to mount the levers.

You've got XB9 linkage! That's most of the work right there! The rest easy, just a little time consuming. Measuring, drilling, cutting, etc. all you need is a jigsaw to cut aluminum plate. Spacers are available at Home Depot (usually in the threaded rod section).

Fwiw: heim joints and connecting rods are easy to find and make for shifter linkage, but just buying the XB or earlier Buell linkage maybe cheaper and certainly easier. Linkage from other brands can be adapted (if found cheap) as well as some forward control linkage.
But it's easy to list the options when you've already owned/made a few sets. The point is they are easy and cheap to make and can look good too (not just like homemade junk)! Hard to beat the look of a Crossroads set though!!; )

On the XB linkage you can use a Blast brake lever bushing. Which means you can use a1/4" bolt to mount the shifter. More room for error and if you drop the Blast and rip the shifter off, it can be re-drilled to 5/16". Also don't drill too deep or you'll have to seal the hole. Not a big deal, but avoidable.

That is good to know. While I do not plan on dropping the bike, I am still new to riding and understand that there is a possibility of it happening.

I will have to pull the cover off to swap the shift shaft, so it wont be too big of a deal if I did drill too far.

Finally got my bike back together with the intake and my exhaust installed. The header was a first attempt and as such it looks a bit rough. Eventually I will make a new one, but I have to get more shielding gas for the welder first.

Here is a quick video of the new exhaust with new idle compared to old much higher idle. When i am holding the speed up it is where the old idle speed was.

PS you should always plan on your bike being dropped. It happens. It's best, when possible, to take that into account when making modifications!

That is why my bike currently looks like it does - no plastic except for the tank cover - which I'll ditch when I can get a 2008 or up tank - they do not have the FI grove, and mirrors - which are cheap - all signals are incorporated into the main lights which are surrounded by steel or aluminum. I've tried to make it as drop proof as possible. Both the mirrors and levers fold and all unnecessary plastic is gone!
