Okay, so I just picked up my blast from the shop. She got a new primary tensioner, and a new clutch. First of all some of the screws holding on the side cover will still loose (yeah, not impressed with the mechanic) and it was leaking oil. One of the bolts holding on the foot peg thing were also not tightened all the way. So I tightened it all down and set off home.

The reason I had the clutch replaced was because when I was at speed and I would shift get back on the throttle the bike would free-rev. So I would close the throttle, it would catch up with itself and we would get back to it.

Anyway, it is still doing it. I am wondering if y'all think it may just be low on transmission oil now and that could be the reason? I am really not terribly happy about all this.

No. Primary and transmission are the same 1qt lubricant and i cant imagine he didnt put i quart back in. Might be overfilled. Somebody missed something somewhere. Was this a Harley dealer mechanic? Sounds like very poor quality work :-( I would also suspect its not adjusted correctly. Did you get the old parts back?
Sadly, you may be redoing all the work, just so its done right. More sadly, not unheard of.

I didn't get the old parts. Would the primary not being adjusted right do that? The clutch is worlds better than it was, I just don't understand what is causing this slippage.

I had intended to do it myself, but they wanted less to do it than the cost of the tool for me to do it myself. I think I'll adjust the clutch and drain and refill it again tomorrow. See how much oil is really in there.

Also give the new clutch a few miles to break in, he may not have soaked plates.

Nimbly,

Are you certain what kind of oil the shop put in the primary?

The clutch kit (Energy One) said to use standard non-synthetic motorcycle oil. He said he used 20w50 dyno oil. Didn't mention the brand. The plates were soaked, I put them in oil and let them myself.

Tomorrow I'll drain it and refill it, adjust the clutch and lube the cable. I'll let y'all know if I figure anything else out.
