Bike won't start without starting fluid. Can keep it running but only while applying throttle. Ez, you have any ideas? Just cleaned the carb and have not tampered anything. Has a Vance and Hines exhaust that shoots a blue flame while on the rpm downfall
Again. Won't start without starting fluid. Any ideas? Any help appreciated.

Check that coupler is on tight and in good condition - so take off, inspect for cracks inside and out, even the tiniest is no good, if ok, put back on tight. Bad auto-choke - try resetting TPS,and if that doesn't work, replace.

3 topics, all on a similar subject at the same time. I didn't realize they were three different people.

If you cleaned the carb, you did tamper with something. The only cleaning these carbs ever need is remove the bowl and slide and spray everything out with carb cleaner, then reassemble...that's it.

If it runs with fluid and dies without...you have no gas getting to the cylinder. Make sure you put the needle jet back in properly, it should be poking up into the throat of the carb about 1/8" from bottom.

Check your idle mix screw. Turn it in until it barely bottoms out, then back it out 2.5 full turns (900° of rotation).}

Using starting fluid can cause a horrible amount of damage in a very short amount of time.
It sounds like you are not getting fuel.
Is there fuel going into the carburetor from the fuel tank? Is there fuel in the float bowl?
Are the fuel jets clogged?
Not a big mystery, it's not much more than a large lawn mower engine...

Wow, thanks for all the answers. So I left the rag in the carb today and fired right up. Till I noticed when the rag went flying by. Also I realized I have a severely clogged slow jet. Sized at 45. Could that cause a no start issue?

Awesome. I will take it back off today and clean the slow jet. I didn't do it the first couple times because it's on the verge of stripping from the previous owner.
I will let y'all know, Ez thanks million man. Your widely appreciated and buell renown.

How about air filters on these guys. Should having one off cause a no start as well? I realize it has to have limitation on suction or it won't look the the float for pickup.

No, should make it a bit leaner so if the auto-enrichner isn't working, it would be harder to start - reset tps, if that doesn't work check enrichner setting, if ok, and still not starting,consider replacing.
