I've got some gas leaking out from between my air box and cover. It's not much, you just can see the wetness or some stains after riding but it's definitely gas.

Yesterday, I thought I fixed it. I noticed the K&N in my modified air box was not being held in place and was just free in the air box. I reset this and have it in there, now with a small spring. I also resealed the plug in the (re-routed) head breather line hole. I also replaced the gasket between the carb/air box and cleaned the air box itself.

At this time, I also replaced the 180 jet with a 175. I have been running with the 180 for almost 2 years and thought it was fine, getting 45 - 47 mpg. I thought I would try a 175 to see if there would be any change, most info on badweb seems to indicate the 180 is too rich.

After my 32 mile commute this morning, I could see gas leak at the same 2 spots on the airbox/cover.

So does anyone know why it would leak gas here? The vacuum seems strong. It has no leak when parked, only when riding.

A lot or little? A little from high rpm reversions due to stock parts and tune common. A lot - stuck float - try tapping side of carb to unstick float.

Jetting depends on intake, exhaust, altitude, engine wear and more. What you read online is basically "close enough" and is really someplace to start. Depending on where you set the needle can affect your main jet choice. Your main jet choice can affect where you set your needle! Also if you modify your slide or spring. How you ride too. If all your looking for is straight line acceleration, then your jetting may be different than someone whose riding is mostly 70mph highway. Idle mixture is mostly where they skimp on richness. Except for the 2000 model, they were a little more generous on the upper rpms (main jet).
Running over rich is a way to compensate for the Blast not having an accelerator pump. But you can kill mpg, accelerate engine wear and diminish throttle response (in other areas).
EZ's carb work is probably the best example I've seen of continually improving carb performance.

fwiw: the CV carb is a fine carb. Going to other more expensive carb may seem the trick, but you're really just getting a different carb that still needs to be dialed in.

My two cents. Close enough is good enough for most. But if you have the patience, I encourage spending more time tuning the carb. Results can be amazing!

To a certain extent this is what SINGLES DO !!!

Put a DRAIN TUBE on the lowest point on your AIR BOX and either let drip on the ground or run it to a CATCH CONTAINER ...
