So I was thinking about the old carb bracing problem, and I came up with an idea.

Use several metal rods cut to length around the outside of the boot. The rods would have to be of large enough diameter to have sufficient stiffness. You could attach them outside the current clamps with a single clamp in the middle.

I'm not sure how this will work in practice, but it seems good in theory.

Problems I forsee:
1. Too tight on the clamp holding the rods on could cause them to push into the boot and cause premature failure.
2. Won't actually offer any support (probably the most likely problem, but I won't know until I test it)

Currently my carb is only supported by some 24 gauge wire wrapped from the bottom of the carb, and around the mouth of the intake to the frame (and it sure is ugly).

Your thoughts on the matter?

I used a plastic velocity stack that is about 1.5 inches long to install a custom intake and filter. I ran a large screw into the side of the stack then used a turn buckle from the hardware store that has a hook on both ends and a adjuster in the middle. I hooked the frame brace above the carb and the screw and then tightened the turn buckle to the proper length after putting red lock tight to the threads so it would not vibrate loose. has been good for over a year now.

I dont see a picture of either of the 2 mounts described so....I'll just say this:

Anything run from the engine to the frame that doesnt include some type of rubber isolator is a bad idea. It will pull your cab off if ever an engine mount becomes week with age or fails completely. It will also cause extra vibration to the carb and extra stress on the boot.
If using solid type braces they should only be run to the engine.
Since the engine is rubber mounted, anything run from the engine to the frame should be isolated with rubber. That includes the exhaust and kickstand. You might be able to get away with it for awhile (especially if you dont ride much), but the damage you do may necessitate the use of a welder to repair and that could be very time consuming and costly. Considering you can actually run the carb unsupported successfully, careful thought to avoiding any linked frame support should be given. Its not that hard to brace it and its not quite as critical as it may seem. Well running Blasts dont blow carbs off the manifold.

* Of course, if you're running a heavy air filter then bracing and support is a must. But for stacks, the ProSeries or just pod or K&N filter add-ons, its not that critical, so extraordinary means of bracing isnt necessary.

...and if you're using the Super Boot, then bracing isnt necessary at all (so I'm told).

Here's my carb brace using a long stainless threaded dowel cut into 5 same length pieces, and placed in a pentagon shape around the boot.

carb brace

It's not really meant to keep the carb from blowing off, just to keep too much lateral movement from tearing up the boot prematurely.

Lol yeah! Sorry I didn't tell you. I bought an exhaust at the same time, and when I notified him my brain thought I had notified you too!

About the superboot: I'm going to buy one eventually, but I haven't seen one for sale on ebay whenever I check so I've been trying to figure out diy solutions in the interim lol.

Seems like a good short term solution.
I could sent you a picture of my carb brace with superboot BUT I HAVENT EVER USED EITHER!; ) Been racing and riding without the stock airbox since 2004 (as have others)! Carry a spare boot and dont stress on it.
