I'm sure this has already been mentioned somewhere,but....

Two years ago I got a 2002 Blast with a little over 2000 miles on it. It now has 2269 miles. Late in the riding season I ripped the intake boot. I replaced it and put it up for the winter. Got it out last season it won't start. I went through the obvious and put fresh fuel in it put a new plug in it. It would crank but not run. I took it to a shop where he tore the carb down cleaned it. He told me it would run when spraying fuel into it. Then long story short the bike was put on the back burn until this year. Now I finally narrowed part of the problem. I just replaced the auto-enricher friday and put a new battery in it yesterday. Now It starts and runs for maybe 2 minutes then dies out. If you give it any throttle while its running it dies out. Some times it has a slight backfire and/or do what I would call a cough and push a little white smoke back out the carb.

Could this be a simple carb adjustment?

Disclaimer- I'm not very mechanically inclined. I know enough to get by, but thats it.

Guestimate where is the bike idling - 1000 to 1200 is normal. Cables lined up and loose? Safeties disabled - kickstand and clutch switch?

Since it has sat for a while, and you mention that you had some gummed up parts, it wouldn't hurt to add some Sea Foam to the gas to help clean up the carb.
