Need help!!! I bought a 03 buell blast and it would only start using starting fluid. I bought a dynojet recal kit and put in the specifications that the instruction sheet provided. 170 main jet and the needle jet third from the top with the shims on top. Changed the spring and drilled the idle mix 2.5 out, Drilled the slide and now it will not start. It is running too lean? I am just a novice but I did just as the sheet said. It is getting fuel. I can see it in the intake mani when I remove the carb. When it did start it wouldn't stay running just die instantly. I have changed the plug and it is getting spark. With help it will start (starting fluid but it backfires through the carb. I have to hold the throttle on to keep it running at all. Any suggestions??? I am using the stock 42 pilot jet but I purchased the 45 pilot jet. I have tried moving the position on the needle and still no help. The bike sat for 2 years and the carb when I opened it up didn't look too bad for sitting. I think drilling the slide was a mistake... seams to be running way too lean. pull the plug and there is no black and it doesn't even smell of gas.

Have you checked the rubber boot from the carb to the intake ??? Neutral ... clutch in ???

I used to have a heck of time starting my bike till I got a good rubber boot properly in place ... ... now she starts perfectly every time.

It sounds like a boot problem.
