Hi, I'm new here, just bought a Blast, it only has 170 miles on it, but it has been sitting so the carb is all plugged up, I'll have to take it apart and give it a good cleaning.
My question is, will I have problems with the throttle position sensor, if I remove it for the cleaning.
Any tips or info is appreciated, thanks.

If you're a really great mechanic, please ignore this post.

Next to "check the boot", the most common bit of advice you'll see here is this:
Don't take apart the carb unless you really, really know what you're doing. Wait for somebody smarter than me to walk you through simpler ways get your new Thumper thumping.

Welcome to the madness !

Canadian...Eh?

Watch what you do with the float, no man handling!
When you go to put the diaphragm cover back on take your time, use a thin metal ruler or something similar to make sure the diaphragm fits back into the groove when you put the cover on, if you pinch the diaphragm it will idle but not give you throttle.
We have a big section on carbs in the Thumper Forum, being you are in the colder clime's you will probably want to put in a 46 pilot jet and a XXX I'm brain farting here...somebody help me, OK I looked, a 175 main jet. Shim the needle jet .050 then carefully...I mean carefully drill out the plug covering the idle air adjustment screw then GENTLY, I mean GENTLY bottom the screw and then back it out 2 and one half turns.
Take all of the screws from the float bowl and the diaphragm cover and the throttle cable bracket and in your wanderings to pick up the carb jets get allen head screws to replace the screws from the bowl, cover and bracket and you should be golden!
Make sure EVERYTHING gets put back in the way it came out and you should be able to put that carb on, fill the tank with fuel and it will start right up and run like a Blast!
To answer your question, no you will not have a roblem with the throttle position sensor because that is not a throttle position sensor, it is an enrichment device used to enhance cold starting.
And one more thing...
Welcome to the Thumper Forum

Brand new 2010 Blast? - drool - what evil things I could do to that. Swampy has the right of it - though I would only jet to 170 for a totally stock Blast.

There is an exploded parts diagram of the CV carb somewhere. it really helped me recently with my carb issues...I can scan it and upload it if you cant find it.

I'm thinking 175 because of the cold weather 10 months out of the year.

Hi, thanks for the info, I already picked up the 45 & 175 jets (from what I'd already read in the forms). It won't be stock for long, I've got a header and muffler ordered, working on my plans for the air intake and the rearsets.
As for cold, it's still cold, it just got above zero this weekend and my lawn still has 2' of snow on it.

EZblast lives in California, the living is easy, warm nights hot days, if you want snow you have to go to it, it never comes to you.

I am in Michigan, I am protecting the siberian mid-northern frontier from the invasion from the blood thirsty Canadians.

There are some Blasters that are even farther north than I am like Loose1, he rarely sees the light of day and his riding season is measured in weeks. I have heard that it snowed on July 4th one year and it took them two months to decide if it was the last snow of the prior year or the first snow of the new year(that sort of information is important when you have to depend on a snowblower for survival)

Our last snowfall is usually around May 20th, but we'll still get some riding in before that, and can usually ride till October.
Last year I did a bit over 11000km's (7000 miles) on my other Buell.

Okay, I'm slowly making some progress, got the new jets (45/175) installed, now waiting for the SS allen head cap screws, bought a few used exhaust parts and installed them, and next is the air filter set up.
I have a question about the exhaust, I bought a used V&H header and a D&D muffler (thats what I've found so far, will buy a Jardine header when available) it's all mounted but there isn't too much clearance between the muffler and the rear tire, about 3/8".
For all you guys with the D&D muffler is that normal, how much clearance do you have?

Is it pointed past the right side of the rear tire facing the bike?

Yes. I will try it with a spacer between the muffler mount and the side stand bracket to bring it out a bit more to the side.

Now for the next issue, the only SS allen head cap screws (for the carb) I can find are bulk, by the box of 100, I only need 8, so if any body wants to buy some for their bike send me a pm and I'll give you a good deal.

The Blast is alive, finished the carb, did the Denso racing plug, modified the air box (until I get the other air filter system built) and just finished the breather re-route this afternoon.
It sits there and idles so nice, but man is it loud.
But now its raining so I can't even go for a test ride, at least the rain should help melt the rest of the snow.

WOW, I'm impressed, this little thing scoots along just fine. Still have to take it easy as it isn't even broken in yet, but just knowing that it will get better and can be pushed harder makes me smile.

Just an update.
Bike now has over 5000km on it and still running great, 2 issues I'm wondering about;
It doesn't want to start when its hot (like when you ride for an hour then stop for gas), it will only fire once for every time you hit the starter button, but if you open the throttle it will fire right up.
Next, this only happens some times, shifting down into first it grinds, not every time only once in a while, have adjusted the primary and the clutch, still does it.
Any suggestions?

Sounds like a bad ignition module. Opening up the throttle changes the setting on the TPS which may affect the ignition module. If the LED flashes once and then nothing, its likely the module. They also commonly fail after everything gets hot.
There is the rare occurrence its tied to something else. I would unplug the TPS and see what happens. The bike will still run, but you'll lose the TPS and auto enrichener functions. But that could tell you if your problem is somehow tied to the TPS.

At what speed are you downshifting into first?
Change to synthetic primary lube.
Do a shifter pawl adjustment.
Is the shifter loose? (I know, sounds silly, but it happens that the shifter is just loose enough to cause a problem, but not loose enough for it to be readily noticeable!!)
Blasts are notorious for the first gear crunch : (

Do you happen to have a part number of that ignition module? I have a similar problem, also I've never noticed any flashing LED when starting the bike, and I've always had to give it throttle to start warm or cold.

And the 1st gear crunch happens for me also sometimes, any brand suggestions as to the primary lube?

And what is a "pawl adjustment"??? Thanks!
