I rode my bike for about 35mi. (mostly freeway). Had it turned off for about 5 minutes, then decided to check the oil. I took out the dip stick, wiped it off, put it back in and took it out and... dry as a bone! Is this not the correct way to check the oil? The thing is... before I changed oil just few hundred miles ago, I used same method to check oil and I would see just a tiny bit of oil at the end of the dip stick, but when I drained it for oil change, almost 2qt. came out! Also...just found out that my bike is leaking oil =( I've attached some photo. I know it's a bit hard to see but...is this really bad? This is after the 35mi. freeway ride. right side:  leak splashed onto airbox:  left side:  | ||

OK, I've been browsing the forum some more and it seems I need to check the oil right at the same second I turn off the bike. I'll try that next time. | ||

You can also check it when it is running. Before you condemn the rocker box gasket as what is leaking check the crank case breather to make sure it is not leaking from the grommet or the hose is not pinched somewhere down the line. | ||

Good call Swampy. I removed the gas tank and checked the crankcase breather (I'm assuming this is the "plug" on top of the engine?), and i saw oil everywhere! Guess it wasn't set tightly. Hopefully that's all there is to it |
