Well... I think that about sums it up. Im riding a 2000 with about 7900 miles. (yeah, almost a new bike) When she's cold, dropping into first gear elicits a bit of a grind and or a pretty substantial thump. This goes away as soon as she warms up. However, I have found an extra neutral between 4th and 5th and this morning between 3d and 4th. Is this a time for scheduled service and / or adjustment? Is there a DIY for these symptoms somewhere? I'm pretty self sufficient with a wrench, as long as there's no specialized tools involved, so I'd rather avoid the stealership. Thanks for your help folks! Stay safe out there. | ||

First of all you have to remember that you have a "WET CLUTCH"(oil on the clutch plates) ... There will always be a little clutch drag because of this ... What affects the transmission as far as finding neutral is: Shifter Shaft assembly adjusted correctly ... Primary Chain adjusted correctly(loosening the adjustment until the chain stops whining does not get it !!!) ... Adjusting the clutch correctly ... Adjusting the shift lever to the ERGONOMICS of your seating position to foot movement ... All if the above aid in how well your transmission shifts thru the gears ... |
