For technical information and discussion of Buell P3 BLAST! Exhaust Systems as well as their repair, maintenance, and upgrade.

Exhaust available:

Vance and Hines - Low Powered - the first made and not much thought at that - durable if packing kept up

Jardine - Good power - early issues at weld - mfgr has doubled up on welds and declared it durable (same thing happened on early Bubs)

D&D - Good Power - especially in mid-range - keep up finish and it will last forever

Pro-series Buell - Low power - quality fitment issues

Discontinued:

Force - great power - bad welds, double over on all of them and it may last a while.

Bub - great torque - Medium power - keep up finish and it will last forever - lol

Kerker - recommended jetting 45/170 till modified - Low power till modified

White Brothers - Great power - weld problems in long run, however, if you use 23 discs and the stock mounting equipment except for extra rear spacer - longevity is assured - as soon as you reweld can to header conector and the front mount tab - 40 bucks extra worth of welding reinforcement - guaranteeing longevity.

Unobtainable in the U.S.:

Wileyco

Note all OD's are 1 3/4" OD, common jetting for them is 45/175, with 2 1/2 to 3 turns out for the air screw.

Note 2: Where ever you can use the front stock mounts - do so - they are much more vibrationally resistant - helping to preserve that nice new aftermarket exhaust from cracking at the mount weld.

The Poor Man's Force:
The Force, when in production was the most powerful exhaust made for the Blast - reliability issues and mainly price, discontinued its production - when available it went for $550 to $650.

Through playing with my various exhausts I have come up with a very close reliable substitute at a savings!

A Jardine exhaust system costs $300 to $350 new, less on Ebay used - use the stock lower front mounting hardware for longevity.

A D&D can - which can be purchased new separately will cost $200 from D&D or buy the system used on Ebay for around $150 to $200. Combined you will have Force like power, however, your system longevity could well be infinite - a great improvement compared to the Force, with the only maintenance being to touch up the muffler paint job once a year.

Jetting would be 48/180 with the air screw turned out 3 from light bottom, shim needle with 2 #4 washers=.05". A savings of 150 to 250 dollars, infinite durability and max. power - for those who want to get the max out of their bike - this is the setup for you!

Enjoy!

*****Exhaust header nuts torque is 6 - 8 ft lbs or 8 - 11 Nm.*****

Here are the part numbers for the stock lower front exhaust mount:

C0513.T spacer (metal sleeve)
C0154.T spacer (metal with rubber bushing)
S0156.T grommet(rubber, need2)
BA0511.2Z washer (2 needed)
AA0516.1CZ bolt
DA0500.10CZ locknut

I just put a SuperTrapp on a Jardine header, so I'm also trying to get all the parts as well.

LOL - Terry Parsley gave me his old LSR header - I connected it to a 4" supertrapp as he had - it was simply made with a constant radius curve ending straight towards the back of the bike - here are the specks as measured twice by me and my buddy Scott to make sure -
Measurements for the LSR Header Exhaust combo:

Top of header from the Head - od x l: 1 1/2 "x 1 3/4" (I'd say its a built in torque cone, but the master - TP - says it is for the 1st reversion) to 1 5/8" x 8 1/4" to 1 3/4" x 8 1/4" to 2" x 15" and The final bend 7 3/4" from the end and total length is 33 1/4"of header to the exhaust - the constant loop you could have bent from a conduit bender - its that smooth a curve - then a slight bend to make it exit under the bike evenly - the result is a very rapid acceleration curve - that beats all the other exhausts I've tried - the only two I haven't personally tried being the Kerker and V&H - I have their dyno #'s though and the Bub has /had similar hp and had better torque - lol - if you want any particular dimension ask and I'll answer tomorrow after work. This combined with the 4" Super trap with the 2"header fitting using all 18 discs at 18" is the bomb and the sound awesome - a total of 99 bucks plus the custom bracketry I fabed up - if you want pics of them let me know - the total system just rocks -

It's as loud as an unpacked V&H, just a higher pitch. I don't mind it! Use what comes with the D&D. Some headers can't use a more robust header flange and some may need longer bolts (studs).

D&D uses stock hardware - just need gasket.

I am trying to put together a semi custom exhaust and i was wondering if anyone has tried using a Jardine header with a Reverse Cone Megaphone? If so what do you think the proper length would be the 17 inch shorty or the classic 24 inch. The idea came up at the shop when we where discussing old late 60 early 70's harleys and and other singles. Just wanted to see if anyone has done it yet and hear some pros and cons.

What's the inlet andstraight through diameter?Your question (and the previous comment) leads me to believe you'll be building an exhaust that will perform worse than stock. What is the minimum diameter of the muffler you'll be using?

I have used one of those mufflers. I needed a temporary replacement while re packing my Why Bothers (White Brothers) muffler. They will choke the life out of your Blast.

Looks like there is a bunch of options out there for them.

this is one
http://www.dimecitycycles.com/chrome-17-inch-short y-reverse-cone-megaphone-muffler.html

Dimensions: 17.5" Long, Outlet OD 3-3/4" tapering down to 2-1/8", Inlet OD 1-5/6"/46.5mm x 1-3/4"/44mm ID

or this

http://www.dimecitycycles.com/vintage-cafe-racer-c aferacer-bobber-brat-chopper-custom-motorcycle-exh aust-parts-26-inch-reverse-cone-megaphone-muffler- 80-84029.html

Dimensions: 16" Long, Outlet OD 3" Cone, Inlet OD 1-55/64"/47mm x 1-3/4"/44mm ID

those are 2 that i found there seem to be many more around the same specs.

So your saying that it will choke the life out ? Just all around bad performance on torqe , top end or just all around a bad idea?

Well, they don't seem to be the el cheapo's. The only way to know for sure is to order one and see what the straight through diameter is.
It will be a gamble as far as performance goes, even if the minimum diameter is good. While there are mathematical equations to determine optimum length, it's a moot point if the muffler is too restrictive.
I'd say go for it, if you're looking for something different. But if the diameter drops below 1 3/4" or it's baffled, it might be a waste of money.

thanks for the advice Erik. The old mechanics at my local shop brought up the idea. They said they use to put them on singles back in the day and if you tune the intake right it was pretty bad ass. I was just wondering if it has been done on the blast to get some current feelings on the topic. At $60 its not going to break the wallet if its a bad idea. I was thinking of stealing EZ's idea and using a super trap but this sounds fun to try. it would be interesting to hear , its suppose to be loud.
