A new Jardine exhaust is on the Blast. For those who may be curious, in comparison to the stock exhaust, it is lower in tone. I also bought the Quiet Core insert and it is only somewhat louder, which is what I wanted, although the sound is lower, so it's almost even. I do not find much or any improvement in performance, except maybe between 20 and 50 accelerating... maybe. That was a lot of money, $300 for the part and $127 to install and rejet the carb, but I will have unhindered access to remove the exhaust and get to the tranny drain plug. |

No improvement? The "quiet core" must either really stifle it or its a bad design or jetting is wrong. Normally an exhaust change really livens it up and few things you can do to the Blast have as much bang for the buck. Did they tell you what they jetted it too? |

Really you should be at 45L/175M jetting wise, and you mounted the front lower section with stock hardware, not what Jardine supplied - right? EZ |

Well, about improvement... I took it out again, and I tried some acceleration runs. As between 20-40 or 20-50 in hard acceleration there appears to be some improvement, but I hadn't ridden it in the three weeks preceding, so I didn't get an immediate chance to compare. At 70, I floored it... seemed to be more or less the same. I took it to a highly experienced mechanic, and he was able to rattle off the necessary adjustments before I told him, which he did do. I might pop off the quiet core to see what happens, then I'll report back later. I am pleased with the volume of it with the Quiet Core... that is not loud. |

What did you do to the intake side? I've got a Jardine with a quiet core and one of Dan's intakes, and the thing is a beast now. It has a top end, and it will happily pull more than hard enough on the highway to get one in trouble with the law... Though I did all this work to get it acceptable up at 5000' - I'm down at sea level now, and incredibly happy with how it pulls. The quiet core does bring it down from "ow my ears" loud to quite acceptable, but it's still nice and audible. If you have the bone stock intake, that may be what's limiting you. |

I'm still really new to this, the bike with the stock exhaust hummed quite merrily in the 80 range with power to spare for passing, and it would get to 96 with me tucked down, and it appears to me that at 96 the rev limiter kicks in. I guess having only ever been on this one motorcycle, I have nothing to compare it to. It has the stock intake. If I could keep the stock appearance and improve the intake, I would do that. |

Ah, ok. I never rode a stock one at sea level, so I don't have a real basis for comparison. With all the work I did, I was able to finally wind it out to 96 at 5k ft. That is the rev limiter in 5th, so you're not going to exceed that. You can open up the intake a bit and keep it totally stock looking. |

Yeah, a max air-box mod is pretty easy, cheap and stock look is kept at 98% with the Outerwears.com stack filter hose-clamped to the intake venturi stack hidden behind the intake scoop which practically makes that damn filter live forever, if rinsed regularly - the stock filter and all interior walls are ditched/cut out - not bad really, but still a bit restrictive - wayyyyyyy better than stock though! Also - you used stock front lower mounting hardware and not what Jardine supplied - correct - if not, fix by getting new front lower hardware stock, its not much - see parts manual for the list. EZ |

I put about 90 work related miles on the Blast, and indeed, the Jardine exhaust with the 175 rejet, is faster. I went through the cobwebs of my mind and remembered when I first got the Blast, i would test the acceleration 30-40, 40-50, then 50-60, etc. very scientifically...1-Mississippi, 2-Mississippi, and the bike went from 30-40 in less than two full Mississippi's! and it lopped off a full Mississippi at the higher speeds. |

Greetings, I would say you need to make somewhat of a choice: do you want to make biking a hobby or do you want two hobbies: biking and tinkering with the bike? Probably everyone on this forum will disagree with me, but as a general rule for me, someone with three cars whose mileage together is about 1/2 million, you are only rarely better off altering the choices of the engineers who designed the product and whose company is or was responsible for putting a warranty on it. I changed the exhaust on mine because it simply broke, then I had a choice to make, to spend about $280 on a stock part or $320 on an aftermarket one. If you are new to riding, and the bike is in good shape, your money will be better spent improving the hobby rather than shaving a second off it's acceleration: e.g. windscreen, taking a safety class, reading books on riding, armored jacket and gloves, developing your tool kit, luggage, the HJC helmet with built-in sunglasses, and buying a service manual and parts catalog. |

You can, but installing the exhaust without the minimal re jet, is like putting on new tires, but not using the correct tire pressure. However, given the poor quality of gas, if you experience any kind of knock or ping, jetting is mandatory or you'll be doing severe damage to the engine. |
