My shifter is slipping on the shaft, is anyone experiencing this, if so what are your solutions. Tightening down the pinch bolt doesn't help.
Thanks for your help

Yeah...mine did that. I started torquing that bolt with a small cheater bar ... then it sheared.

I got a shifter from an FXR, hammered it on, working well. I imagine most XL shifters would fit, just need one the correct length.

Welcome Bambi!
XL shifters fit, but are too short (work, but are uncomfortable).
First unscrew the bolt and make sure the shifter is fully on the spacer. The edge of the shifter, spacer and shaft should be flush. If the shifter is hanging off, it wont tighten down enough.
You can use red Loctite (or whatever colour you have) between shifter and spacer. That will usually help hold it in place.
Make sure the cut in the spacer and the cut in the lever are closely lined up (within 90 degrees of each other).
Lastly, if you're still having a problem, set the shifter where you want it, tighten it down best you can, then drill a 1/4" hole through it into the spacer (but not down to the shaft), tap it and then put in a set screw or bolt and that will hold it in place. You can also pull the shifter off (its loose anyway), drill and tap a hole in it, then put it back on with the set screw/bolt.*
The shifter is on the soft side so overtightening the pinch bolt can strip out the threads.

* there are other ways, but with a set screw, its never going anywhere again!

I never thought to tap it for a set screw. Good call!

i hate that everyone's solution to a problem EVERYONE has or has had, with this shift lever, is to drill a hole and screw it in.. i'm on my 3rd blast and of course it's shift lever is spinning around and around as the last two did at some point... what about an aftermarket shifter? any universal shifter ? i want to get away from the silly "collar/line up/horrible screw on the bottom" set up they come with.. what other shift lever WILL fit it? i don't care if i have to force it on or use jb weld, ,i'm just done with the factory setup of lever.collar post.. and the bottom screw either falls out, or, is all the way tightened, and the lever STILL spins ....

What I did was very carefully degrease all contacting surfaces in the shifter. Cleaned my hands, used acetone and several paper towels. Wiped everything down twice. Then I used plenty of red loctite on the shaft bushing to shift lever, and some pink loctite on the screw. Problem was solved, hasn't slipped once

mission-i get it, and that's the similar action(s) i took with my last two.. i would much prefer to just replace it with a logical shift lever. i was hoping after all these years, of this message board and buell riders, someone here had purchased an aftermarket non-collared shifter that worked , or made work..

One that works is a reversed shifter made for an M2. Not too short like the sportster levers. Still going to cost you a $100. Storz performance.
