First, I'd like to comment that is seems that all Blast! owners are out riding and not posting here ... that's a good thing !!!

My totally stock Blast! has been running just great ... starts instantly, goes like a scalded cat. A tank of gas frequently, a dash of oil occasionally. Nothing has broken for months !!! What's wrong ???

Basically, the Blast is a good reliable bike.
Mine has had some issues that have kept me away from riding it for a while but nothing that I couldn't have corrected in a few hours if I could have been bothered to do the repair.
However, I am spoiled because I have an X1 sitting next to it in the garage.
My slightly modified Blast gets me to and from work every day without an issue. I love my Blast.

You should work on it yourself.

You really should at least try to do some of your own repairs.

What was wrong with your bike? Maybe we could send you in the right direction.

I have been in the back rooms of shops, some bikes are just not going to be fixed.

I once saw a Blast come in for a "Spring Tune Up" I saw the primary adjuster stop still inplace when it went out the door.

Oh well...

well it started by just going into the shop (the local dealer has a stable of them for a school)
so i thought they would know something about the blast.
just a quick once over to see about any problems, oil change etc. told them to look at the rubber band, ..well it broke with-in 100 miles of out the door. then they say after they have it back that my rear tire is bad.. and then after back into the shop i get a call saying my rear pulley is bad.
believe me it is NOT going back to this dealer. way too many problems. and if they have a stable of them..why no parts in stock? must order everything and it takes a week to get anything.
if nothing else slow service.
when i get the old rear pulley back i will count the teeth.

My Blast is so much fun to ride but it spews oil like a fountain? Any ideas what is going on. Oil is all over the downtube, and splatters on both feet during a half hour ride. I am suspecting the PCV and grommet?

I've been riding big bikes (H-D) for the last 40 years so I don't have experience with the 500 blast. But I've come across a younger female Blaster who needs my help. I've always been pretty mechanical but can't explain why she has broken 2 belts in 1000 miles. Any ideas? Also she tells me that she has been told to replace both sprockets when replacing the belt. This seems excessive and cost prohibitive to me. Any truth to that? Now the last belt she got was used but she said it looked like new, so I don't know it might have been weak already.

Welcome!
First, the Blast is not a Big Twin and although the engine shares many parts with the Sportster, don't assume it's the same. Please keep that in mind if you're to work on it.
The manual recommends replacing belt and both sprockets every 15000 miles, but most will just replace the belt. A used belt with 15000 isn't going to look much different that a belt with 5000 miles. So if a used belt broke it really won't tell you if you have a chronic breakage problem.
The rear wheel/belt tension is non adjustable, so all you can really do is look for bent parts, badly work parts or anything else unusual (especially any modifications).
I assume its not a 2000 Blast?
Burnouts and clutch popping can contribute to belt breakage, but its not a given and unlikely your friends issue!
If there is really a chronic belt breakage issue, then it would be best to replace both sprockets with belt as the manual suggests.
Keep us posted!

(and please don't take the carb apart!)

Although I have taken several carbs apart successfully for rebuilding purposes this one is not in need of that kind of attention. So there will be none of that yet! Her Blast is not a 2000, she tells me it is a 2003, And believe me I know it is not a big twin. But it is her "baby" and as such I want to treat it accordingly. What would be the best way to identify a bent or tweeked swingarm? I know this would be a pretty drastic problem if existing. She tells me it has been down. She can tell by the scratches. So I don't know how seriously it was laid down. That's why I'm asking.

Its pretty hard to bend a swingarm. I know quite a few Blasts that have been down, several times, hard, and none have had swingarm problems.
As with a chain, I would watch for alignment from the rear sprocket while turning the wheel.

Its a pretty simple drive system. I would replace both sprockets and belt if you cant find anything else wrong. Not the cheap route, but it is what the manual says to do : (

If you could post a picture, maybe there are parts missing or modified that you cant see (because of your relative Blast unfamiliarity).
