Yeah, I would use a spark plug and place it in the boot then ground the spark plug body to the engine or frame, and then look for spark, on a bright day you might not be able to see it. You say the LED on the ignition module is flashing right? The coil can be tested by jumping the wires across the battery and look for a spark at the plug.

did the following:

- ran spark plug in boot connected to frame (in dark garage) no spark
- tested spark plug cable in M2 - and bike fired up fine (chord seems good).
- pulled out the ignition coil and put it on the voltmeter - it would not register a reading

making me think the ignition coil is bad.

Yes? No?

Thanks.

Easiest fix - attached to the bike - no voltage with key on? Replace.

I was able to pick up the ignition coil from HD over the weekend. Installed it and the blast still wouldn't fire.

replace the ignition module? Where is the ignition fuse?

Thanks - can't wait to get her running again.

Coils very rarely fail. Verify each component before changing parts. You should be able to find out how to check each component online.

Bigs - go to my profile, then go to my webpage, then go to my yahoogroup, then join, the information needed to diagnose electrical problems is in the files section.

Well, I know it's not the coil, plug, plug wire or battery...also checked grounds with voltmeter, they're good. Now trying to rule out any other possibilities.
Would a starter relay inhibit spark and cause this sort of problem? Can I check with a voltmeter and if so what is a normal reading?
Voltage Regulator?
Alternator?
The starter on my m2 went out a couple years ago and the engine would not turn whatsoever, so I tend to think it's not the starter (now having said that, it will probably be the starter - lol)

EZ - pulled up the yahoo group, which doc is it?
I pulled up the electtest4bike.doc and it seems to only outline battery/alternator/relay...is this the doc I should be viewing?

See the manual section - diagnosing in the electrical section - for educational purposes.

It will not be alternator or starter. Yours turns over just fine. Check the components backwards one by one from the plug wire back to the battery, in order.

9500 miles on the 2003 blast.

I installed a new coil over the weekend and the engine wouldn't fire.

I'll check the docs and retrace backwards from spark plug to battery.

thanks for the help...I hope it's not the ignition module @ $170

Wait - pop the ignition cover off - use a pick, then turn the bike over, if the light flashes, its probably not the ignition - maybe an ignition wire - but not the ignition itself, because it is picking up and sending signals per the flashing light.

hey guys, haven't had much time to work on the blast lately...but finally got a few hours today to check into things

coils on the voltmeter (the old coil and a brand new one from HD) - reading .9-1 ohm - I've read that a normal reading for a coil should be between .4-.6 ohm - does this mean my original and brand new coil from HD are both bad?

tested the coil connector (white/black line) reading is 12v - which I've read is normal.

the light (under timing cover) flashes when I turn the ignition over.

My grounds seem to be in good shape and connected well...as does everything else, yet I'm still not getting spark.

Anyone know for sure if the above mentioned coil reading (.9 - 1 ohm) is the culprit for this problem? I've been tracing wires back to the battery from the spark plug and everything seems to be as it should.

Thanks.

Yes, it is possible the new coil is bad, but I really couldnt tell you if that is the problem.
It is a stock replacement Blast coil?

Does the M2 have an LED light? Sometimes the LED light will flash, but its an erratic flash or even a flash followed by several less bright flashes.

Yes the manual does say the .9-1ohm is out of range, but never having testing a working coil, I dont know if that is actually bad (verifying the manual).

Yes - it is a stock replacement Buell Blast coil I picked up from HD. Anyone tested a working coil on a voltmeter? If so, what reading did it spit out?

Thanks.

wow...hard to believe this was nearly a year ago. time flies!

Yes - I was able to get the blast running again in early January. I got my hands on a working ignition module (borrowed from a fellow blaster), tested it in my blast, still wouldn't work. So after replacing the boot, plugs, coil, and testing a working module...I went through all of the safety features once again.

Turned out to be that damned Bank Angle Sensor. Bike won't fire if it's out.
Thanks for all the help, sorry for the delayed posts.
