A buddy of mine bought a 2004 blast that had been left alone (with fuel in tank) for 5 years. So far, we've drained the tank, changed oil, cleaned the carb, and done an inspection of "das boot" The bike runs great!

One problem though - when cold, it will only start with a tiny shot of starter fluid. Once it's warm, it starts without any issues at all.

Is this a problem with the auto-enricher? How can I test?

Did you switch to a 45 primary jet? - You should.

Yes it could be the auto enrichener, but change the slow jet first (you'll need to do it anyway). Then pull out the EPA aluminum plug and adjust the idle mixture 2 1/2 turns out.

It probably needs a new spark plug too.

Thanks guys. Yeah, I figured a new spark plug was in order, but considering how it started right up, I wanted to fix the bigger issue first.

I was thinking about pulling the carb and installing this kit: http://www.amazon.com/Dynojet-Research-Intake-Perf ormance-Kit/dp/B000MPQNVS

Or should I just get a 45 primary and a replacement slow jet in there, then crank the idle mix to 2.5 turns out?

Any way I can test if it's the auto enrichener?

45 will be an upgrade, not a replacement - 42 is stock. So 45 and then crank the idle mix to 2.5 turns out from flat soft bottom.

Stop using the starting fluid, your engine WILL get addicted to it just like meth, I have seen ring lands pushed down and broken rings. Just like the website faces of meth you see the before and after pictures of meth heads after only a couple of tries of the stuff!

Where can I find a diagram of all the jets in the carb? I read somewhere else that this sounds like a classic example of a clogged enrichment jet.

I moved the topic - go back one page and you'll find it in the Carb header section -
