My wife just got a 2003 with 380 miles, and I rode it for the first time yesterday. With all the talk of oil consumption I will keep an eye on the level. Yesterday after riding for about a 1/2 hour I checked the oil immediately after shutting down. It was bubbly, and I can only assume this is from the paint-shaker effect of this bike. Unless you guys tell me something different I am going to assume it is benign.

Thanks

I noticed that when mine was new, but it doesn't do it any more. I thought it was doing it because it was low on oil, but that doesn't seem to be the trouble. Has the oil been changed since it was new? I'd change it, just because new engines make lots of metal when they're breaking in.

I should change the oil. I don't know that the previous owner did.

Yeah I get a few bubbles on mine also - but I look down inside and see oil - not foam - so I know I'm all right. Enjoy the ride!

BTW, I really like the bike. The wife seems to enjoy it too. She's been riding a 81 KZ440 for a while and I'm glad she now has something a lot more modern. The Blast seems to be really confidence inspiring for her. I'm just hoping the "buzziness" isn't a problem for her if we go on a weekend getaway. Does anybody make heavy bar-ends?

You really only get buzz at low rpm - keep it above 2 grand and it starts to really smooth out. Check our links section or our sponsors - everyone sells those - lol

Oil foaming is normal and as EZ says it should only be at the top. Of course, the thinner your oil is and how worn out your oil is, will probably affect the foaming.IE thin worn out oil cannot support the bubbles.
(not facts, just my guess)
(of course this is badweb, the answer is probably here somewhere)
