Its made for a twin and so since it is getting only 1/2 its pulses you only get half a reading. I run a Westach - a very nice item. EZ | ||

Short answer-Dont know! The adapter listed is for a Dyna S ignition. You've purchased a different tach.It doesnt look like there are much electronics in the adapter to make the conversion. Dyna S are the people to ask if it will work for any tach. If so, its like GOLD! Also, the Westach is shipped as being single fire and dual fire compatible. Just 1 wire needs to be cut to change it. Since your tach is 'supposed' to be single fire is it possible you missed some mounting/wiring instructions? Can you contact the tach maker? | ||

EZ and Gearhead are wise men on this board. Their views are valuable. My view is this: 1) If you search back a bit on this tread, you will see I had a very satisfying experience with the J & P tach... installation details on on the thread; 2) The Westach tach is quite expensive by my lights.. and delivery time is up to six weeks as I recall; 3) I think you need to talk with the your original tach seller; see if there is something we don't know and what he thinks about the adapter; 4) Consider you loss if you trash the tach you bought; 5) I'm not particularly technically knowledgeable in ignitions but it stands to reason that all adapters work the same way: They sense then allow each fire pulse to be registered, rather than every other, so... 6) It ought to work just fine -- but why not query that vendor too? See if he can confirm that it will work with any ignition? Just make a couple of more calls before you decide. | ||

J&P CYCLES TACH NO LONGER AVAILABLE! GOT THE VERY LAST ONE! DISCONTINUED! Bitbear, Thanks for the advice. I received some input from Gearheaderiko as well as since the Westach is so expensive with such a long lead time I decided to go with another Zodiac tach from J&P cycles. We should let the forum know somehow that today when I placed my order over the phone I purchased the very last tach from J&P. They will no longer be purchasing this tach from Zodiac which I know is a German company. I have 120 days to return this if it is indeed DOA as well. Cheers, totolandman | ||

Bitbear, Do you still have a copy of the original documentation that came with your Zodiac single fire tach from J&P cycles? It would be great to get a copy of this in a .PDF format or a .GIF image since J&P is no longer carrying this tach anymore. so i bought the adapter and it says one wire goes to the - Side of Front coil and the other wire goes to the - side of the rear coil.. Am i wrong or do we only have 1 coil? Or do we have 2 coils? Thanks for any replys | ||

Just one coil. Just pretend it's the front and rear. | ||

Well, it would seem that if the tach adapter is converting single fire to a dual fire tach, its taking a firing pulse of off both coils to simulate dual fire ignitions. The Blast still only has one coil, so it probably wont work. Simple solution for a twin, doesnt work on a Blast  | ||

So, whatever he sees, he'll have to multiply by 2. That's a nuisance. I don't have a clue aside from making an in line frequency multiplier. I'll just stick with my home made digital tach. | ||

take a look at this http://www.autobarn.net/ieqper338tac.html this tach can be programed to work with 1-12 cylinder engines, and has a pick up that clamps to a spark plug wire. they do not have a 2 inch version but this tach should work with a blast with no problems, and its only $70!!!! | ||

The rep asked me for the name of the part and as its not listed, I did not tell her. So, can someone tell me the name of this part? Thanks! | ||

I used the Westach instructions. You must read them carefully. Cross wires and you'll blow the tach (but that really applies to most tachs). Others have used the instructions here with success. I've read them over and they seem to be accurate, but if you find a problem ask or point it out. The way its done can vary by individual preference and tach design. If you have a Westach, use the Westach instructions. The instructions here are much more thorough, but may differ for the Westach. | ||

The AUM does not exist for the part 2204, so the rep asked me for the brand of the kit. sigh... Any help you can provide is greatly appreciated (specially, since I already ordered the tach). | ||

I dont know about the 'partsamerica' kit. I used the aluminum 2 gauge dash available on ebay from time to time that was designed around the Westach. | ||

so maybe this question is already out there, apologies if it is. i purchased a Buell tach (part # 67329-94Y), built a new dash, got the whole thing wired up and all is well. except it won't read higher than 3000rpm. is this tach dual fire and only reading half of what i'd like? is it as easy as buying an adapter like i've seen on eBay? thanks! |
