hi, my wife's stock exhaust broke at the header today while we were out on a ride.

i'm not really sure whay caused it, it may be because i wrapped it wet 3 months ago and let it run for the exhaust heat to dry the wrap. it is now broken almost full circle at the header close to where it mounts on the cylinder/head.

i know a lot of you has their exhausts upgraded, so some takeoffs may be laying around just collecting dust. please PM me your asking price, shipped to 08234. thanks in advance...

My header pipe had been broken at the connection to the muffler and welded at least twice before I bought my bike. It broke again within the first 100 miles after I got it. Took it to a local muffler shop and had them install a stainless steel flex coupler between the header pipe and muffler. It only cost about $75 and seems to have taken the stress off the exhaust system by allowing things to move and flex a little. Don't know if it was the right thing to do for the long term, but it seems to be working fine.

do you think your solution of a flex coupler will work as well if the break is by the header flange by the exhaust port?

was the local muffler shop a chain or a mom&pop one?

thanks in advance..

I don't see why it wouldn't work, so long as the coupler is placed below the bend on the header flange. I don't think it would work if the coupler is used to try to make the bend. I had it done at a local m&p shop, at first they were hesitant to try citing most bike exhausts as being a royal pain to get at. After they saw how accessible the blast exhaust was, they just disconnected the battery, cut out a 3 inch piece of pipe, slipped in the flex coupler, and welded it all together while on the bike. It took all of 20 minutes from start to finish. I just used a die grinder to smooth down the welds and sprayed the pipe with a hi temp black paint. I left the stainless flex piece alone.

The mufflers are a real cool design......but they suck for weight. There is no reason that that muffler should weigh that much. There is no reason now not to dice that thing up and make your own.
