What is the general opinion on the Buell Blast dealer luggage? Are there less expensive or just plain better alternatives?

Thanks.

Expensive, yes, but do they work? yup. I loved them while i had them. Fragged them in a wreck, and didn't replace them due to cost. They are fabric, so they are subject to sun fade and such...but you can pack for a weekend trip and have room to spare.

There are other luggage options as well - check the links section to stuff you can't find here - Ventura luggage system, Dual Star, J&K Luggage, and the Buell lightning luggage systems have also been popular.

I also liked and 'fragged' my Buell luggage too. They fit well, but if you are planning on hauling a lot of stuff there may be better options.
What are you going to use it for?
Ventura also makes a nice rack for the Blast and matching luggage.www.ventura-bike.com

My wife and I are planning on doing a 4-6 day ride in August. I ride a Concours so I can carry a lot of stuff. I guess we'd like to carry as much as possible. I will take your suggestions into consideration and post our decision.

Thanks.

We decided on the standard Nelson Rigg Saddlebags...(STSB-250 Standard Saddlebags) I got them for 65 bucks. If anybody is interested in where I got them send me an email. i also got a tank bag for 44 bucks. Not too shabby.

P.S. I'll check my profile to see if there is an email address.

Tony - could you tell me more about your saddlebags - make, how you mounted them - perhaps a close-up pic as well and how do you like them and why?

Chase Harper Stealth bags, Mounting was fairly simple, front set of straps I ran to my rearsets. The rear set of straps I ran around the back. I still need to re-sew this strap to make it fit better but that's minor. How do I like them???? WAY WAY WAY better than the Buell saddlebags and about twice the volume. they don't vibrate/flap like the Buell bags did when empty or lightly loaded. Along those same lines the tank bag a Chase Harper Sport Trek was just part of the deal from Ebay but it turns out to be much bigger and easier to use than the 650 Sportbike Tank Bag that I was using though it doesn't have a pouch for a water bladder like the 650, the map case (I use this more) is much better. I have some work to do tomorrow attaching spoilers to my handguards. When I'm done I'll shoot more detailed photos of my blast and post them

OK it's cold as sh1t today, too cold to ride even for me. My fingers froze drilling 4 holes and bolting my spoilers in place so no photos today of my luggage today. Not even the dog wants to be outside hopefully it warms up to mid to high 20's and I will shoot photos.

I am interested in picking up the Chase Harper Stealth bags. Does anyone have a picture of these bags mounted on a bike? I would greatly appreciate it as I intend to order th bags off the web and would like to get an idea of how they look before purchasing. Let the modifications continue and the money continue to leave me . . .

Contact Xgecko for a picture or search the archives here (I know there's a pic of his bike with them mounted.)

Ventura luggage rack review.

I got the Ventura luggage rack from Venturcycles.com in Seatle. This is my review.

INSTALLATION:

There is a little bracket that bolts to the frame under the tail lights. You have to remove the rear plastic to reach it.

Then bolt the L brackets to the tab on the frame and the bracket intalled in front of the tail light. If your frame is tweaked, you may have to loosen it and straighten it out. After I did that, not only did the rack fit great, but my seat was centered better, too.

Then the last step is to slide the rack into the l-brackets.

It took me about 15 minutes to put on and then I topped it off with an SX appeal canvas top case.

After a couple weekend trips and general around town use for a couple weeks it is great. The saddle bags still fit and it the top case holds my full face helmet.

The feature of having the rack point either forward or back is nice, too. I put the case out back when we are riding 2 up and turn it up toward me when I ride alone.

Here are a couple pictures.

Paul

Been thinking how I'm going to manage a commute, where when I get to the destination, I need to take off all the riding gear and store it securely. Can't take it inside, since it would be a bit unprofessional to be lugging around a huge bag o' crap. I also wear back protector armor which is about 30" long and somewhat rigid, so it won't fit in any type of tailbag or saddlebag. I've been envisioning some sort of fairly durable bag that can be locked closed, not easily ripped open, and locked onto the frame somehow. With nothing in it during transit, I could wad it into the tailbag and it wouldn't take much room. Does anyone have any suggestions on something like that?

Welcome to the board Tobyf!

I carry a locking cable and a pad lock. When I get to where I am going I thread the cable to whatever I want to secure and thread it through a rim.

Stumbled across a company that makes a specific system for the Buell Blast:

http://www.ventura-bike.com/fitments.aspx?modelid= 80

The company is Ventura! They have a decent system with several rear luggage options!

Here are the pics of the Ventura rack for the Buell Blast and the Bike Packs that will work with the Ventura rack system.

Totoandman,

Look up this thread and you will see my Blast with the Ventura rack and a tan SX appeal scooter top case on it all loaded up for a 3 day tour.

The rack is holding up great and my sweety really likes having something behind her when we ride 2 up. The rack is easy to put on and pretty sturdy, if not up to the level I would want to ride on it.

Tobyf,

Sorry I can't help with your request, but I gave up on looking professional years ago. Although making custom shoes makes me think I should wear nicer clothes when I have on a $1000 pair of boots.

I purchased the Ventura rack system that included the following: L-brackets, pack-rack, sport-rack, and grab handle so that I could have the flexibility to swap out between the pack-rack, sport-rack, or just the grab handle depending on usage. In the Blast rack package it came with the Aero Spada VII (expandable) and then I purchased the Aero Delta VII (expandable) for longer trips. The quality and workmanship of the rack system is great and is it a mirror black finish. The one exception was the stupid stickers that required the pieces to be soaked in order to remove. The bags are made of impressive material quality! Once I get my bike back from the shop I will install and get picks posted.

Cheers,

totolandman

I am putting the Ventura rack system on eBay for a 30% discount. It was never used but will not be needing anymore since I purchased the Softail Rocker-C. My wife will take over the Blast but she will only ride with me and I purchased originally when planning to ride to work. Anyone interested before I list send me a PM.

Here is what you would be getting:

The Ventura Bike Pack system comes with the following:

Aerodynamic tour kit comes with:
L-brackets custom for the Buell Blast
Sport Rack
Pack Rack
and the Aero Spada VII Pack (51 liters)
Included also is the Grab handle for when you want to ride without a pack at all.
The Aero Delta VII (12-35 liters) expandable and the storm cover for the Aero Spada VII which comes to a total retail price of $567 at a 30% discount that would be $396 which I is what I would be looking to get for all of it. My loss of $170 plus $40 what I paid for shipping and handling is your gain. I opened the package for the Aero Spada VII pack to look at the quality which I must admit is amazing! All of the other items are still in the original packaging! Would have been a sweet setup if I had not gotten another motorcycle.

Cheers,

Robb
