ok this thing needs a steering damper bad i was having horrible head shake last night comming down my street at like 90mph through the turns.. (im quite use to the road) and well ya this thing needs a steering damper i imagine a GSXR1300 damper what can be had cheap should work great.. just curious if anyone else has done this if so how did you mount it up?

There are other pictures (I didnt realize there wasnt a steering stabilizer thread-I'll fix that...soon!)
Basically the mounting points are all the same. You can sit there all day and you'll basically come up with the same mounting points as MMelvis came up with. 2 cheap adjustable dampers can be found at J & P Cycles ($50 + $80). One is a stock Kawi H2 replacement, the other is a packaged V-Twin stabilizer. Both work well enough for a Blast (and considerably cheaper than the $350+ they usually cost).

Warning "serious injury or death": The damper can be so stiff (whether adjusted too or 'factory' preset) that the frame will flex when turning. This can of course cause frame cracking, eventually.

A damper may just mask (or make worse) other problems though. Adjusting the suspension for example can make things much better at high speed even without adding the stabilizer.



I run both. The V-Twin mfg. product can be set considerably stiffer than the H2. Its also more adjustable in its mounting points.

You'll have to look closely but I used a Pro Tek 37mm fork clamp to mount the stabilizer instead of drilling the bottom triple tree. This gave more flexibility on mounting positions and helpful if you change to a different damper. The clearance can be very tight if you use a fork brace though.

The dampner section is in the Racing section - never found a need for one on the street yet - though I've often considered it. What tires are you running, what fork oil, and have you shimmed the front and rear springs yet - doing all this makes a great difference in handling at higher speeds.

Erik, how much clearance do you have between the fork brace and the damper mount? According to BMC, the front fork has 4.52" of travel.

If you use a fork clamp like shown and a button head screw to attach the damper, the clearance is almost 0 (havent measured but very close). If you mount directly to the bottom of the triple tree you should be fine.
If you get a damper with longer travel, you can swing the fork clamp out to the side and avoid the problem (which was done on the raceBlast).

I have had some degree of headshake with my bike since I bought it..when I changed to Pirelli tires it helped...I have checked everything from wheel bearings to swingarm to triple clamp and stem bearing torque..nothing wrong.

Saturday during our monthly club ride, I was riding #2 behind an 1125r..we were going through a long righthand sweeper at around 85..my line took me across the center paint stripe (yes I could see around the turn and there was no oncoming traffic)...when I crossed the paint stripe I got a short duration shake that nearly made me shart my drawers...disconforting to say the least...the ole P3 is getting the H2 damper since I have one in a box somewhere (kept spares...used two at once on the ole dragbike...required if it went 8.20 or quicker : ) )...

do you have a Fork Brace? Have you changed the springs? I found those two much more useful for improving handling than a dampner (I removed mine after a year and didn't notice)
