Hey all, My Blast battery hasnt been holding its charge very well (was the original HD battery from 2001) even after recharging and now Im having problems starting the bike keeping it idling. Figured first thing first Ill replace the battery should I order one from HD or are there cheaper/better ones available? Thanks | ||

Welcome to the Thumper Forum Credo Pirata! Take you battery somewhere and have it tested. If it does not hold a charge then have it replaced. There is no cheap alternative for the Blast battery. You need to use the dry powder battery similar to the original equipment. The reason for this is the battery has no liquid or gel in it as it is a dry powder that will not leak and it is not vented. The great thing about these types of batteries is they last for very long times it is said to be 8-12 years, and they survive very severe service and operating conditions and can be mounted in any position. They are used in military applications because of their dependibility. To check your battery just check the voltage across the terminals, it should read 12.7 volts or higher. If it is lower try charging it, let it sit then check the voltage. Buell/HD branded batteries or Odessey batteries are the ones I would recommend. I bought an Oddesey battery for my Sportster a couple of years ago for $125, which is way cheaper than replacing a genuine HD lead acid battery every two years. | ||

I use Power Source Batteries # WP14-B. I get a very good price on them and they seem to hold a charge for a long time without maintenance or regular riding. {I've had one sitting in the rarely ridden old Shovelhead for a long time and it never gives me trouble} There are cheaper alternatives to HD/Buell batteries, but do give HD/Buell a call. Sometimes the dealer isnt that expensive. | ||

I got my new battery from the local Buell dealer. (bike just QUIT on the way to work). I checked ebay, sam's club, cycle gear, maybe some others. The price on the Harley battery was competitive, it had the best warranty, and it was in stock. It's a standard size, and I was told it's the gel type, which can be mounted sideways (like in a Blast) and nothing will spill or leak out. I think it was about $65 - even the mail-order ones were only about $7 cheaper after shipping, and then I would have had to wait. | ||

p/n 65948-00 ...label says it's sealed, non-vented, and contains acid - had it about a year, and no signs of leakage or corrosion. | ||

2 weeks ago I ran into a problem with my blast. I just bought a new battery b/c the old one was not holding a charge. I went out for about a 5 hour ride and then took a break for a few hours at a friends. I went back to my bike ready to go home and it woudn't start just made a clicking noise. It wasn't even turning over. I hooked it up to my friends car to give it a charge. It started up fine but, i left it hooked up to let the battery charge up for a few but within a minute of having it started it stalled out. It was still connected to the car battery. I went to start it and it started right back up. I towed it home and charged it on my battery tender and now starts up right away. Im still concerned about what happen. Does anyone have an idea?? | ||

After reading though a couple of threads, I was wondering if there was a recommended battery that any of you folks are using? The replacement HD battery goes for about $100 form the dealership. In this thread, Swampy mentioned that he's using odessy batteries. And gearheaderiko uses powersource batteries. Which work the best? | ||

Hello ... my 'new to me' 2008 Blast was sitting and now it isn't starting up. (it tries but gives up.) I took a look at it appears it has the original HD battery. There are no HD dealers in my area anymore (Toronto..) and two shops I called have no idea how to help. Can anyone suggest what to do? I am going to guess that due to age and not having been ridden the battery has simply died. Thanks .. | ||
