Hey everyone. I just bought my first bike, a 2001 Blast. i am new to the blast, buells, and motorcycles all together. i would just like some advice for what i should do to my bike. what kind of accesories are available?? i know there are a few exhaust options. I would like a tach for it because it is my first bike, but im sure i will be fine with out one. any help and suggestions would be great thanks

Chris,

The little piece of plastic in front isn't a windshield, it's a flyscreen. Small definition problem from another of your posts. As for a tach, until you do some headwork that allows you to increase the rev limit, the stock rev limiter will keep you were you need to be. It won't take you very long to figure out by sound and feel were the power band is. So I would say don't worry too much about a tach as this point.

As for other mods, look through the archives there is a wealth of information from all of us there. A short list would be exhaust (lots of choices), intake mods (the Buell pro series is looking pretty good) and tuning the carb for your altitude will give you some pretty impressive improvement in performance for less than $500.

And as James says, just ride it. It's a fun little machine that you will get hours of enjoyment from. It also cries out to be modified and personalized so have fun that's what it's all about.

Ok, so I'm not new here.. most of you have probably seen me post elsewhere here.. but this isn't about me, it's about the wife...

I think I've finally convinced her (sort of) that she should get a Blast, now comes what I need help with... (try to follow this, it kind of confuses me as well)..
She is 5ft even with a 24in inseam so the low seat should fit her just fine. Currently she is riding a Suzuki Volousia that she had slammed (2 1/4in) and still wears tall heeled boots to ride. She wants a used model and is trying to keep it under $3000.00 total cost. Then, she's worried that with the stated 34hp she wont be able to keep up with people on the bigger bikes. Without spending a ton of money, what's the most economical way for her to be able to 'do the ton' if she wants, on a Blast? I know once she gets on it, and actually rides the bike, she'll enjoy it and it will help build her skill for when she's on her 'big' bike.

Thanks for the help..

Later,

i would say the easiest way is going to be rejet the carb, modify the intake and put on a new pipe to get a lil more power and she should have more then enough to hit the "ton". at being only 5' tall she has to weigh alot less then some of the gorillas we have around here that have hit the ton mark with the same basic mods.

lol(but only after getting rid of the stock ignition - it will only allow a top speed of 95 - of course going down hill with wind - lol - and upping the rpms to 6800 - that takes the stock head right to the edge - lol) - GT - JBOTDS! EZ

ok, well ive been riding a while and I went out with a few friends who have 600 and up jap bikes. and trust me they dont have to even think about leaving you behind.they just kinda go.... away, fast. if your on a blast and this happens theres nothing you can realy do except the speed limit, cuz all youll realy do is make more noise and burn fuell.
I got to test drive a new Triumph speed triple.../drool. ill probably get in in a year or so when I have the exp/money.

Yes, they'll go away fast... In a straight line. Unless they're pretty good, though, you can keep up pretty easily in the twisties. Even pass them and leave THEM behind. Unless, like I said, they're pretty good and can actually USE their lean angle advantage (the most we can get is somewhere around 45ish? degrees, unless you get rearsets.) But, they will definitely leave you behind on a straight. Which makes it even more embarassing for them when you pass them like they're standing still in the twisties... lol...

LOL - Time to look up NHRS for more power! - I still smile from Ralph's tale to me the other day - he was riding along - saw a X1 a bit a head and caught up with it - they where at 90 mph he says - so Ralph pegs the speedo - he figures he's at/around 110 mph and he leaves the X1 behind - he says he's waiting for the X1 to catch up, but it doesn't, so he slows down to its speed and signals whats up? - the guy points at his motor like something is wrong - poor guy - knowing that a Blast - stock - has a speed limiter of 95 - so when Ralph passed him he must of thought something was wrong with his bike - lol - a sleeper 600cc Blast strikes again! - lol -
