Sounds like your making progress, great! Did you check the numbers on the jets when you had the carb apart? Jets are $3. Shimming the needle is even cheaper! (but I agree, it should still run fine with stock jetting, but...you never know).

Under the left side of the set is the charcol canister. If all 3 lines are still connected to it, your bike is (in all probability) not 49 stated. This not being done will cause all kinds of problems, much like your experiencing.
I think your well on your way to having a reliable bike. I own 2 2002 models and both ran very well stock(a moot point now since neither are very stock).

Whats inside the fuel tank? I would take that off, check the petcock and try it again. Readjust the primary to a condition on the loose side.

Jets are cheap, but you shouldn't be loosing power with the stock jetting.

If that doesn't cure it an ignition module will....

Local bike shop:
Slow jet $3.50
Main jet $4.00
and you don't have to know the part number, just the jet size!

Ask your buddy Ralph!

Is the HD 5,ooo mile checkup worth the $250 dollars? I need my primary chain tightened (which they said they don't do in the 2500 $99 checkup) and don't have the necessary tools plus my bike is at 4400 atm. Has anyone had any experience with Carolina Coastal HD's buell mechanics?

My issue is I don't have any tools down at my new place in Wilmington so I can't do much but the most basic work. But I went up and talked to the service manager at the HD dealership and told him the deal. So we are going to do the 2500m service b/c the bike is due for it anyway and he's going to adj the primary too.

The by the ear approach works well - most folks are only a couple of flats at most off using it.

Swampy I agree and thats the plan for the future. ATM I'm working 6 days a week and used my day off to install my viperstryke rear. But any info you can shed on a bare bones set of tools for working on the blast would be great (specific sizes out of sets ect.) B/C it's definitely the way I'm planning going after this and hopefully we'll have the shed cleaned out so I have a indoor place to work on her. TiA

I recently purchased a 2001 blast with about 5000 miles on it. Yesterday as I was riding at about 50 mph, the engine started to sputter and then died on me. A few seconds later the engine started itself back up again. I went home and checked it out and noticed that i have a charcoal canister on the back. (strange because i purchased this bike from MD). How do i go about rerouting the hoses after i take the canister off? The service manual is a little confusing to me in this area, so if someone could dumb it down for me i would appreciate it : )

To really dumb it down:
Disconnect the 3 hoses.
Plug the big one.
Plug the one that came off the 'carb' fitting on the canister.
Leave the 'tank' one unplugged.

Adjust your throttle cables? Shim your needle? Primary too tight?

Your profile says XB9r, is this a Blast problem?( we're happy to help either way but the XB forum might better serve you)

Did this problem just start? Has it been like this since you got it? Only when cold? Is it just hesitation? Low rpms only? Did you recently do anything to the bike and this problem shortly appeared thereafter? Any other problems?

EZ: What about das boot? (carb intake boot)

The bike is still in the break in process, only have 250 miles on it. Suppose it happens when it is cold. nothing done to bike. and yes low Rpms. I was going to get an XB but decided to get the blast first to start!
