Just a follow up to my "rejetting question" thread, where I mentioned that I damaged my mixture screw while drilling out the epa required plug.

First off if you plan on removing your plug, I recommend using a small drill bit for the hole and wrapping the bit with tape to prevent drilling too deep. Drill to about 1/4 inch deep, then insert a screw to pry or pull out the plug.

Since I hadnt known of this trick, I drilled with a large bit trying to cut all of it out at once, and inadvertantly went too deep cutting off the slot to the mixture screw. The drill bit actually turned the screw clockwise causing a lean mixture. And without the slot I couldnt turn the screw to adjust the mixture.

If this happened to you, I have a temporary fix. In the pics I show where I used the smallest drill bit I could find and drilled three holes in the head of the screw making a valley for a flat head screwdriver to fit in. I priced a new one for $2 but had to order it.

It worked like a charm and I was able to get the mixture right, but be advised that if the center drilled hole is too deep you could risk cutting the head off of the threads of the screw. Then your on ebay looking for a new carb. That is the reason my easyout bit didnt work. I was scared that I would need to cut the hole too deep for the easyout bit to grab well enough.

Also, anyone notice this before? After a major carb backfire the bottom screw that mounts the cover to the air box pulled the thread grommit out of the box. Im sure its not air tight now. Theres alot about this air box that I dont like. I think my next task is box removal upgrade.

One of the Blasts has a deck screw holding the cover on, I wouldnt worry about it as the stock air box is not leak free even when it is new. Just don't follow too many bikes down a dusty dirt road, get out in front where the clean air is.
