Superglider

Will probably pick up a Blast next week for an interim ride while waiting for my 2007 Superglide Custom. My daughter (25) wants to learn to ride on the Blast next year and I told her only if she takes MSF course. from what I read she may have to find her own though as these rides seem to be fun little machines and I may not want to give it up. What reasons would you give as to why I should buy a Blast. Why should I not buy one?

BTW, I sold my 2001 S3T 18 months ago to buy a FLHTI but 8 knees surgeries over the years meant it was too heavy to hold up. Should have kept the S3T. I have also had a 97 Superglide and a 99 FLHT both of which I bought new.

Someday I will tell you all the story of riding 900+ miles in the rain from Michigan's U P to upstate NY - in 18 hours - on a Yamaha RD350. Talk about buzzing for days....

You should buy one cause it's a fun little bike thats inexpensive and reliable.

You shouldn't buy one if you need it to be something other than a fun little bike. You'll always be disapointed with it's shortcommings if you do.

BTW, the Blast is very easy to hold up. That should be good for your knees. And it will be an excellent bike for your daughter.

Concur w/ Jlnance.
The Blast is just that- a Blast to ride! While it wont compare with your S3T, you'll enjoy its nimble handling and simple design.
Those days when your knees make riding the big bike a hassle, the Blast makes a good stand-in.
Take your brand new Big Twin for a quick 5 minute ride to the store and thats a whole lot of wear & tear on an expensive bike to rebuild. Takes a whole lot less time to throw a new top end on the Blast.
The Blast makes an ideal extra bike for guests.

Besides the old Honda 50 (I think everybody over 40 has had one) and a moped, the Blast is the smallest bike I've owned and my favourite.

Personally I cant think of a reason
not to buy a Blast.

Lastly its made in America!

i concur with gear i bought my blast about 3 months ago and beside having to replace the front motor mount because of an accident its been the best at both riding and entertaining my tinkering habit that i have it is very easy to work on and a blast to ride. just my 2 cents

The Blast is FUN to ride and EASY to work on. But I will never give up my Ultra Classic. If my knees go, I'll get it triked!

The Holy grail - would be an XBBlast, followed by a Hardtail Blast!

The blast is a lot of fun. Definitley properly named. I bought mine after I crashed a Yamaha R1. I needed something to get back into riding after I got back into walking.

I had never intended on keeping it, but it's been two years and I put more miles on it than any other bike. It's a great little commuter and it's the only bike that I can drag the pegs multiple times on the way into work.

"The Holy grail - would be an XBBlast, followed by a Hardtail Blast!"

yeah but the thing is the motors I'd want for that are kinda backwards...I'd want a 600cc for the XBlast but for my Rigid Springer Blast (can you see I've already designed it in my mind?) nothing will do but a 44"

And add that 600cc kit - you have 700cc of unbridled fun! - of course a nice cam, exhaust, CV44 carb would add even more fun! Throw in some Works suspension pieces and your set for the Hunt!

Reasons to buy a Blast:

-Cheap
-Simple and easy to work on
-a real BLAST to ride
-a SINGLE
-70 mpg
-nobody knows what it is

Reasons not to buy a blast

-No resale value
-Eats rear tires
-Not friendly to overly tall riders
-Your HD dealer/wrench will treat you like dirt

I really love my blast... There are times I wish it was faster (the power is ok for its weight, but it feels like it needs another gear at times). There are times I wish it was bigger to carry a passenger more comfortably. I often wish it had a beefier rear shock, but that can be dealt with in aftermarket for a price.

No matter its shortcomings, I really enjoy the bike. I'm in my 3rd season with it and have not had any problems at all.

As has been said, its a great little bike and it can be a pretty decent all around bike - you just have to be a tough SOB to tour on it... ;)

The reason they eat rear tires is because
SPRING PLATE PN37977-90 is no loner put in clutch ... BUT IT IS CHEAPER TO BUY REAR TIRES THAN TO REPLACE CLUTCH WHEN "SPRING PLATE" GOES BAD !!! Allowed fo a slower/smooth clutch release ...

This engine will CHURP the tire on take off !!!

I'm 6ft. 3in. and "i" know how to TEEAK
suspension and relocate foot pegs ...

It is too complicated for a HARLEY-DAVIDSON "TECHNICIAN !!!

Okay, what happens when the spring goes bad? Catastrophic failure? Totally ruined clutch?
?

"YES"

"YES"

YES"

The brass rivets get loose and come out ...

The rivets then move around in the clutch
basket doing the self destruct thing ...

This SPRING PLATE was left out of the BLAST and XB clutches and everything else from 2001 on ...
