Jprovo - Thanks! I also found some good advice here:
http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/158664/142927.html?1125354043
My real difficulty is in keeping a solid grip on the left bar and working the clutch at the same time. With the stock lever, I held the bar with my index finger and held the lever in with the other 3 fingers. With the shorty lever, I hold the bar with my 2 little fingers, and hold the lever with the big 2 fingers.
So far, I haven't really felt like I had adequate grip for more than a "medium-fast" launch with either method, and not as precise clutch control as i'd like either... Did I mention that I have stumpy fingers?

Naustin - Thanks! The fuzzier the picture, the better it looks! LOL

GH Erik - yeah, me too...

Thanks James! I forgot all about F by F.The ad picture (that he's been using for ages!) makes one believe his products are somewhat archaic.
I'll see if his prices compare to Buell.
See you Sunday?!

Erik - I thought that Forking by Frank would bring back some good chopper memories! I'll be by Sunday...

Berkshire - You're a new rider? Dude - Just get out and ride, after a few thousand mikes, you won't even think about actuating the clutch.

My homemade plastic one started to crack - I figured I'd make a replacement before my speedo was bouncing on the headlight bucket.

Currently the bikes are up to 100%! The Iridium Racing plugs have everything hitting a little harder, and I have a few bolts to add locktight to, but otherwise they are really a world of fun right now! Can't wait for the SLO ride!

I'm just waiting for the standard height seat to arrive. Got it off eBay, now I know why shipping was so cheap. Hopefully it will get my knees out of my chest!

I agree that looks great, hows it look from a closer standpoint? I am considering a nice green personally.

Considering I have $7.00 into this paint job, I think it looks great. There are a few specks of lint that floated onto the wet paint, but from 10 feet away it looks good.
With more careful surface prep and a clean spray booth, it would have come out superb!
I took the parts off, removed the decals, washed the parts with dish detergent and hot water, and dried them. The next day I wiped the parts down with lacquer thinner on a soft cloth, let the thinner evaporate, then sprayed them with Krylon Fusion from Wal-Mart. The can says it sticks to plastic, and it comes in various colors. I didn't do any sanding or roughing up of the surface, just sprayed right over the glossy finish.
Somebody with more knowledge and experience in this field would have done a better job, but for a hack with a spray can, I think it came out great!

Good to hear, I once painted a car behind walmart w/ walmart rattle can; from 50 feet it didn't look too bad. From ten feet it looked like crap (but then again paint wsa applied over everything but glass and chrome, yes this included the dirt.)

So today I decided to adjust the primary and change the fluids. I drained the primary first, then pulled the spacer and torqued the adjuster, backed off 8 flats, and locked it down. It ended up being about 1/8 inch further in (spacer wouldn't fit back in). I put Amsoil 75W-90 Severe Gear lube in the primary and bolted that back together. Ran the bike for like 10 minutes and drained the engine. Apparently didn't run it long enough, oil was still cool. Mailman showed up with my seat, Yay! Refilled with Amsoil 20W-50 MCV, 1.75 quarts to put it on the add mark. Ran it into town and, OMG, the boot must have broken! Then I remembered to put it on reserve, and life was good again. Filled up, went back home, and dumped the rest of the second quart in after checking the level. That brought it to just above the full mark. I'll wear some of that on my pantleg, I'm sure.
The standard height seat is a big improvement!
This bike is too much fun!

I have concern about your using Severe gear lube in the primary. Have you checked on its compatibility with the clutch?
I use Redline 75w-90 gear lube (as recommended by Redline) but they also make a shockproof gear lube which will mess up your clutch plates possibly beyond redemption.
There is also some debate going on as to whether 'gear lube' should be used in the primary at all.

Well, the gear lube is in there. At this point, I'm thinking it's OK, as it didn't act up on me. When can I expect to see clutch problems if they are going to happen?
I'll keep you posted either way.
