a simple email of pics, with maybe some rough dimensions, would be great - I can go from there.

Take a look at the discussions in the footpegs, etc. section. We just kinda loked at what the other companies were doing and made our own version.
Not much to them to be honest!

For some reason I thought there was a track day the weekend before the races. Labor day is sold out (big surprise). James if you want to get on the wait list, Labor Day is the one day I'm sure I can go!

Labor Day is out for me, my wedding anniverary is the third, and Karen and I tend to take the weekend enjoying the anniversary.

It looks like Track Daz has some days in September and November Too.

I've gotta get under the 2 minuite mark (average speed over 75) to get my racing license. I think that It's probably a good idea if I try and go to a few track day to help learn the track, and see what my lap times are like. I REALLY Don't want to have to borow a "fast" bike to get my racer licnse. I hope that the Blast and I are up to it!

I think you're up to it. Its my goal to get the Blast up to it and then some! It will also be easier to prep it for the track days and race prep it as we go.
I'm really looking forward to it. If we cant beat or even keep up with the Ascots, whats the point?!

I think I'm up to it, and I know that we can build a competitive Blast. Of course, I don't expect to be competitive with Larry Cochran or Scott Fabbro for awhile, tose guys ahve been racing Willow for years!

James, you will have no problems doing a 1:59. After the new racers school staff are through with you, you will be a seasoned veteran! It's a great program, so don't even sweat it.

I think Erik is thinking of the track days on the Friday and Saturday before Sunday race day??? I don't feel like they are really worth it. The track days run by wsmc really don't give you much track time (strange yes) compared to the time and instruction you get with Calsportbike.

If you are looking to race your Blasts check out www.microlon.com . their engine treatments are really good. they helped me get about 9% better fuel mileage in my pickup and are supposed to help reduce heat from reduced friction.I have treated my Blast and have seen a definite improvement in fuel mileage.I was averaging 55mpg or so running to and from work.Yes I push the bike pretty hard. But am now averaging approx 62mpg.And on a nice easy ride thru mountains have seen as high as 75 mpg.Just thought that the reduced friction in engine/tranny might be a help on track let alone reduced heat.

Matty, Thanks for the confidence. I was a little concerned after watching Patrick last month, he was running 1:58, and he has some experience on the track.

Do you suggest a track day before new racers school??

It treats the metal and will protect even if no oil on metal.Detroit diesel tested it and saw water temp fall by 3.5 deg,oil consumption go down,fuel consumption went down also.Then they ran engine for 2.5 hours with NO OIL and water temp only went back up by 3 deg.When they refilled with oil water temp went back down.
If you can find another engine treatment with a 3 year customer satisfaction warranty.And if any of you do any shooting for a hobby try their gun juice.
One bit of advice if any of you do use the Microlon treatment do engine in 2 stages.Half,ride an hour or so then other half.otherwise you will overflow oil tank and waste some.Do not worry about being over full on dipstick it will go back down as cleaning agents burn off and treatment gets forced into metal.

Remember when "Prolong" came out with the advertising blitz? Same tests, same "treatment". Remember slick 50? Same tests, same "treatment".
Remember how they were forced to change thier tune after the FCC busted them?
TNT, you can achieve the same results you have by using a lower viscosity oil than plain old 20w50.

To add to the above, yes heat and friction are problems. Oil treatments are not as effective as the other options available.
Treating the piston skirts with anti-friction coatings (ala stock HD pistons) is far more effective. How does the "Dry film treatment" control its application?
Controlling head temperature, oil flow in the motor, and careful attention to details makes or breaks a race Blast.

I agree with Matty- Smells like Slick 50. A well built-"blueprinted" motor will always out perform a motor built with factory tolerances.... With or without the "Engine Treatment". I know it's not just me, I don't trust that stuff.

Back on topic... Matty do you suggest a track day before new racer school??

microlon is a metal treatment not an oil treatment.and they also have a formula that is FAA approved for aircraft engines up to 1000 ci. also since the others you mentioned replace a portion of your oil they can't really leave a treatment on your metal.The microlon goes in on top of your oil and it will clean the inside of your engine also.and to the advertising the microlon guys don't advertise.

So was Prolong. They did the same thing. Poured it in and ran the motor without oil. They even pulled the valve covers off and dumped gravel on the rockers. As if by magic, there was no damage!
I just don't trust products that won't tell you what's in them.

As far as track days James, I'd say why the heck not! The more time you get on the track with some quality instruction, the better.

Got the rearsets almost done. I think they are the perfect height. Ordered a reverse shifter to try out.
I need a hand bending the rear frame section back!

Matty, I've changed the exhaust so it will need to be re jetted (& dyno'd). I've also got some jets that Glendale didn't have (why it ended up so rich). I still need an M2 needle or adjustable Sportster needle which I've forgotten to get (I wonder if Glendale stocks either?)

I've also got to check around for a local supply of race gas.

Also, I've noticed that a lot of the race bikes run a loose drive chain (and this wasnt motocross). Should the primary chain be run on the loose side and/or is there a preferred adjustment for it?
