You can also use a long thin screwdriver or awl inside the grip to break them free.(I use a special weather strip removal tool).
WARNING: Do not stab yourself in the process, this method can be dangerous.
To install grips that are tight you can spray the insides (or handlebar) with glass cleaner as it evaporates leaving the grip stuck. However if the grip slides on dry, use some adhesive.(the yellow stuff or spray adhesive). If you are using bar ends or bar end mirrors, you dont have to worry much about the grip being super glued on.

The Big Kid put the Superbike Bars from Chapparell on the Yellow Blast yesterday. He did the ghetto trick with the grips but....
I rode it tonight when I got home from the UP. I felt more weight on the wrists if I was sitting towards the back of the seat but if I slid forward into the tank it felt comfortable for doing the long trips.
EVERYONE!! These are the bars the bike should have come with!!!! They are well worth the $11.99, it gives the bike an entirely different feel and look. Now I just have to install the second set on the red one.

I just installed CityX handlebars and handguards on my Blast. Unfortunately it is too dark for photos to come out. I'll try tomorrow afternoon.

They cost a bit more, but look great.

I did the thing with a slender screwdriver to loosen the left grip - that was a chore. I'd rather have left it on, but the clutch mounting is the ONLY control that didn't come apart in halves, and has to be slid off the bar.

I used new traction grips and just cut out the center of the end with a knife to allow the bar end plugs for the handguards.

Stay tuned....

Swampy - lookin good. I have the 4-way adjustables, but I should have gone with the $12 superbike bars... After several adjustments, I realized that I've got them in almost exactly the same position anyway. rolleyes

That's true. I wish the adjustments were finer, however. Each notch is between 8 and 10 degree's of change, which is quite a lot really. It's really not fine enough to make small adjustments. And, the knuckle on the lower joint contacts the tank. I haven't trimmed it off yet. The dremmel isn't very good at hearty jobs like that, and I don't have a grinder. (rolleyes).

Another issue is that one of the 4 joints came loose the other day in the middle of a ride. That was pretty scary, but luckily I wasn't far from home. I might have to use some locktite on the allen bolts.

Wsplrll - When I swapped my CityX bars, I had some excess clutch cable and brake line but was able to slide some cable ties and redistribute the slack.

I had to loosen the brake line nut and rotate the line a tad to ease the strain, but it was easy.

Yeah - had that finally happen to my clipon - add red locktight and enjoy - the rotozip(sears has their version as well) is inexpensive and acts as a large Dremel - very usefull for most any customizing where metal is involved.

Without measuring, I think they are about 1/2 the height of the stock bars. So that would be lowered about 3 inches....

I saw the pics, they look sweet. Are they comfortable? Or do they lean too much forward.
Just tryin ta figure out what to get, between those, superbike, and motocross style. I saw another post with I think Honda CR bend bars.

thanks

I lean forward just a little, but can sit up straight if I wish. Sometimes I catch myself slouching forward and leaning on my hands. If I stay they way, I get a sore neck, so I'll arch my back and hold myself up with stomach and back muscles which is what I need. (Getting too old and paunchy - need some muscle tone.) You don't have to arch your back, you can just sit up, depending on your arm length, and torso height.

On the plus side, it put more of my weight over my feet for handling the bumps in these terrible Missouri roads, and the twisties are easier and more fun.

I am contemplating getting some Banke Rearsets, but am daunted by the apparent brake line modifications that will take.

It is a trade-off. I like them. When my wife takes the bike over, I'll let her try them and she can decide what to do.

Either way, the handguards a great! You can add them even if you keep the old bars. Took some bug hits on the windshield, helmet, and handguards today. None hit my hands. (I have relatively thin, perforated summer gloves.)

The mods just involve unclamping, cuting with good mechanics sheers, and then re-clamping - easy - harder is carefully redirecting the steel line of the brake cylinder - just remember no hard bends and flex slowly and carefully to the shape needed - easy to do if you take your time though. its a must for either Crossroads or Banke or a custom setup - change is always hard - I've got the red bike half in braided SS lines and half regular - will do the rest when I take off the tank/oilchange - lol - also the air-pod is history on my pro-series - going through too many boots - just clamped on a stack filter to the stack horn - probably just a tad heavier than the torque stack running on the black with a stack filter - the honk is a definate plus now! We will see - the bikes are both going to SS Braided - just using the red to test on - lol

For the rearsets, not the new bars.
(It was the metal line I was worried about.)

I've now bent my rear brake line 4 times (going from stock to Bankes and back twice). So if you do it carefully just once, you'll be fine. As far as the reservoir hose, you dont really need to cut it.The nipple on the cyclinder can be twisted around to use the stock length hose.(helpful if you dont like the Bankes and want to change back).
Also, the Bankes (engine mount) can be installed with the stock Y frames in place!

Caution to handlebar changers:
If you must loosen the line to the master cyclinder, occasionally it can be very difficult to get it to re seal. It may take a couple of tries to get it to seal (do not overtighten) or you may have to buy new washers.
2nd: the front brakes may not bleed back up easily (or at all). If you get it back a little enough to work, it will come back with regular riding on its own (about a week).

Jugallo94,
Where are you going Saturday? Any place by Lansing? I'm still waiting for the front isolator but I could ride the Sporty.
Funny, one of my buddies rode over with his DynaWideGlide with his wife on the back, I have never seen this woman smile in the 6 years I've known her and today......shes smiling. So as I'm sitting on the front porch putting my boots on to get the bike out he says "We're going alone" So I figure I got bad breath or something?

If you get a chance come on down. It starts at 10, and the finals starts around 12:30. I ended up putting everything back together since my bars wont be in until tuesday. I am having a bon fire at my house afterwards if you want to come also.

I got my new bars yesterday. I decided to go with the superbike bars in black. It was to dark when I finished to take pics. I will take some tonight and post them. I rode in to work today, and love the handle bars. I have the buell traction grips, and man those take a lot of the vibration away. I went with the blackburn bar end mirrors. Those are taking a bit to get used to. Maybe by this weekend I will be used to seeing out of them. Thanks to all for the help and info.

I am installing the new superbike bars. Has anyone has issues with the length of the throttle cable? What is the best solution?

I am looking for the section of the manual that shows the throttle assembly. I am trying to reconstruct the switch and the throttle cables and not sure I have it correct.

Thanks !

There are no length issues with the stock throttle cables and the superbike bars.

Be sure that the cable housing is seated at the carb end where they go into the cable holder, sometimes they will come out and make it seem like the inner cable is too short.

Also reroute you cables to give them the optimum positioning and clearance.

Got the bars on.....then I took the Blast out. I haven't been riding it much since I got the CityX. WOW! It feels like a totally different bike ! I blasted around the back roads for 30 minutes till it got dark. As everyone says - these are the bars the bike should come with. Best 12.99 I ever spent.

I ended up not rerouting and seems ok. Where and how would you reroute ?

I can't say for sure, just make sure things are't rubbing and that when you turn the bars lock to lock that the cables are free and the engine RPM doesn't increase or decrease.
