I've noticed that on early 2000 Buell Blasts there is an extra upper heim joint going from the front top mount to the horn mount bolt. Why was this discontinued on later Blasts? Would it harm anything to remove it from my 2000? Is it nescessary? If so - why was it discontinued? I've noticed my red 2000 vibrates a bit more than my 2001 - could this be why?

No costumes or the like, but looking forward to the finale at last!
The funny thing is my origional fairing on my black bike was even more Vader helmet like - lol - my current version - though also Vaderish - is easy maintenance when vibration proofed - lol - and the lighting is even better!
I'm just curious about that heim suport - pro's and cons - they also stoped the braided front brake line because the brakes where practically stop on a dime - stoppy type - that good - in the rain you could feel the pull of the front brake side on the stock tire - the reason my city bike got upgraded with the fork brace - lol -

I'll try this weekend - on the Blast - the front top motormount has on the 2001 on up has 1 heim mounting suport bracket to the frame, while the early and mid - 2000 Blasts also have a second one comming from the same place to behind the bolt(larger on the 2000's)that also mounts the horn. This part is not part of later Blasts - no mention is made to why it is discontinued - good or bad - its part of the motor mount that was discontinued - I'd just like to know why, can it be taken off a 2000 with no problems, and if there was perhaps a benifit like the fact less forces would be directed in any direction using two top suports vs one - though a bit more vibration would be the result at idle - my experience. Just looking for answers - thats the problem with being a Blastaholic - lol

Well - do we need it or not - benifits - draw backs - I know the red bike vibrates more - this could be the reason - don't know - anybody - especially our favorite anonomous - lol - some folks would reallly like to know the ramifications because they are not running it on their 2000 bike - lol

Have you checked the manuals and seen if they are in fact left out and not a case of someone making a mistake on your particular bike?

The first two pictures are the red? Seems with that mount it would be less. That seems to be a rubber isolator on the inside of the mounting bolt, much like the XB's have at the front end of the motor. Have you done any research to see if the one piece unit had any failure problems? If so that might have been why they did the change. I my opinion the first set of pictures seems like that bike would vibrate less.

Quick, let me close this out. Extra heim joint gave slight improvement in handling, noticeable only to the very fast, but added some vibration. Looked at the target market and made the choice.

So you could adapt it to later Blasts for an edge on the track? There is real promise now in the unlimited singles - any edge would be helpfull and passed on! (And if so you should sell it as a Pro-series kit - lol)

Ok so how do we add one of these to a 2001 blast. Any improvement in speeds above 80 would be great.

So do we just get the longer 2000 bolt, heim joint and heavy horn mounting bracket bolt and replace the others adding the heim joint?

Given the amount of time & money I've put into my engine recently and I'm hopefully headed out to the track, I'm really intrigued and excited about the possibility of adding an extra tie bar to improve handling and anchoring down the motor a little more.


I've researched my parts lists and nothing I have goes back to 2000. Anybody got part numbers?

My 2000 Cyclone came from the factory with the mounts for a tie-bar at frame and front engine mount, but no tie-bar. When I added one from an X1, I didn't notice any change at all, in engine vibration or handling.

Maybe I'm not fast enough to tell the difference in handling, though.

I'll scan them in tommorrow night - I have the 2000 - 2001 parts book - same head mounting point, just the added heim joint from what I can tell - maybe I'll have to upgrade my 2001 to the 2000 level all around with braided lines and an extra heim suport -

Guys, it should be the same as adding one to a tuber: buy the bolts and the heim joint and install it.

L0499.T is no longer available, use part # L0500.T (existing tie bar assembly still used). Use 3/8 x 24 die to cut additional threads and cut male tie bar to desired length (about 1 1/2" off-total length of modified tiebar is about 4").
Tuber Buell tie bars can be used but will also need modification and might not be as readily available as Blast tie bars (and are VERY expensive).
The XB series uses fixed length tie bars (2006 models-dont know about earlier) so it would be unsuitable for modification.
