Anyone w/ the hugger & beltguard removed have problems/concerns riding passengers? Seems a little dangerous...but I prefer the looks of it & I may have an occasional passenger.

Opinions? Experience?

Took mine off. So far so good as far as the passenger. Have probably 200 miles of passenger time with it off, and have not had a problem.

I just point it out and tell them to keep their feet on the pegs and not to turn their feet in.

Clearance is still good, But I wouldn't carry a passenger if they were wearing very baggy jeans or those that were tattered at the bottom and could catch the belt.

Lets put it this way: You're giving a girlfriend a ride home. Its 75 degrees when you start the ride, sun goes down, you ride through a canyon and now its 55 degrees. Your friend is now shivering, hugging you close, and not at all remembering your advice about keeping those feet away from the belt.If shes wearing boots, maybe okay, but she's probably not dressed for riding and that sprocket & belt go right through those thin shoes or sandles.

OR:
Sit on the back of the bike and see if You'd feel comfortable riding that way, Your feet are right in harms way without the belt guard.
Its one thing to get an exhaust burn on your leg (every girlfriend I've had has one) its another to get your foot dragged and caught in between the frame & wheel.

"its another to get your foot dragged and caught in between the frame & wheel."

Ummm...yea, that would kind of suck.

Maybe trim it down some but keep a bit of protection...or refuse to ride anyone :P

I should just cut the passenger portion of the peg mounts off, that would solve everything!

IMO, it normally wouldn't make much difference - unless your girlfriend dresses like Stevie Nicks.

...but if mistakes were made and you somehow found yourself on the ground with the bike on top of you and still running (it can happen), then the OEM guards would REALLY be your friend!

I had mine off a while, but I put it back on because the underside of the battery compartment and swingarm pivot/tranny area got totally filthy. The bike looked tough without the hugger, but I didn't want to spend as much time washing & detailing as riding.
