This is a question that probably relates more to the drive train but....

I have almost 400 miles so I am still in the break in phase. I seem to remember reading that the Blast can be a little noisy at first. What I always have hear is sort of a rattlely sort of clanking kind of noise from the primary drive area as best as I can tell
l ( Somewhere down there )?????

When I rode past another Badwebber he called it that " Jetson's sound"
I never thought about it much but is that normal?

Yes - until your first service - your primary chain needs adjusting.

"Yes - until your first service - your primary chain needs adjusting. "

Is that where they remove the bolt ?

What causes that noise?

And Thanks!

No they don't remove a bolt, just a spacer, then torqued to spec and brought back out 5 to 8 flats - not the 3 1/2 recommended by the manual - found to be too tight by the majority - sound of a loose primary chain. There is a step by step procedure with alternative methods in the Procedures section of the Thumper kv (Knowledge Vault) - enjoy!

Finally got the 1000 mile service. The Engine and the transmission sounds much better ( the clanking noises are now gone due to the primary adjustment I presume).

I asked awhile back about a shorter shifter since the stock is a bit long for my taste. Someone suggested a Sporter shifter to replace it. I asked at the dealer and the Tech advised it is a different diameter at the connection and will not fit. Any other suggestions? Or specifics as to what to ask for?

Also - EZ - you had advised that I can get a chromed timer cover to replace the plastic one. There were several "universal" covers at the dealer but I was sure how many holes - 3 - 5 ?

I meant to ask but I forgot when I left.

They replaced the oil with std. as opposed to synth - when I questioned they advised that they recommend the std due to the design of the Blast and the oil usage and breather vent etc.

Any ideas on that??? I know I can reroute that tube - that is on my to -do list.

The dealer was Dean's in Souderton. They were really accommodating considering how backed up they are ( more than a month in appointments) and they let me wait for the bike since I had to ride 20 + miles to get there ( hard to work on a hot bike )I also didn't buy the bike there but they were very friendly and helpful. They are not as close to me as where I got the bike butt I kind of wish I had bought there.

So those are my questions. I am past the first milestone ( break in )

Good to hear about another good dealer experience.
The Sportster shifter is reported as fitting as you must take off the additional sleeve that the Blast shifter slips on to. Get a cheap one from a catalogue or swap meet. Steel(chrome) lasts longer, aluminum tends to break.
Any 2 hole 'points' cover from a 1970-1998 Big Twin or Sportster will fit. Make sure it comes with screws, use blue loctite and dont overtighten. (I recommend using a gasket with it. It helps keep rain out and less chance of screws seizing or backing out).
The only issue is price on the synth oil and I only went through a lot at continued high revs before line reroute.
(PS 2000 miles on my rebuilt top end and have not needed to add oil. Oil line rerouted, not stock and still using break in dyno juice).

Take shifter off, cut to desired length (ala sawzall, rotozip, or dremel, etc.) and drill a hole for new toe peg mount, mount toe peg, mount shifter, enjoy!
Synth is better, but folks have their preferences - lol

Related to the break - in service ( 1000 mile ) and the here to fore previous opinion that the dealer was on top of things.

I checked the oil level yesterday ( first time after they changed it ) I road in the 95 + heat for a few hours and the bike was very hot - but the oil level on the dipstick was well above the upper level.

The bike is running fine and I will check the oil today while cold to get an idea of the cold level .

Is this cause for concern?

Anyway .....on a lighter note. I went to a dealer in Reading PA and I have been dying to test a bigger Buell. Also I wanted to get a free sling bag.

I asked if I could test a bike and they said sure and brought out a Firebolt XB12R and a Lighting XB12S.

I have never ridden anything bigger than my Blast. I tooled around the lot a bit to get used to the Firebolt. The position took a little getting used to. Off to the back roads with the salesguy in front to pace. He took off like a bat out of hades so.....

After maybe 10 minutes I switched to the XB12S.

WOW!!!! Best of all worlds.

I am amazed at the power and the handling.

If I had 10gs in my pocket I would have rode it home. I was amazed at how quickly I was able to adapt to the power of this bike.

Anyway - I got on my Blast the next day and far from being disappointed - I was suprised at how much fun it still is. I think I like it even more since I know what a big bike feels like.

Someday though..........

Your oil level shouldn't be a problem if it hasn't already been a problem. That is to say, if it didn't leak out or overflow on that ride, I doubt it will subsequently.

If you want to play it safe, it is pretty simple to drain a little out to bring the level down.

Or, take it out and run it at 90 for 30-40 miles. That'll bring the level down a little too. ; )

LOL, Naustin, that's what I was about to say. That works for me every time. Also, don't be too down on the service dept. for overfilling the oil, that's one of the things that even the best service dept. will do, as they probably don't work on too many Blasts, and the Blast holds less oil than any of the other bikes that they are more accustomed to working on. On the shifter, did you ask someone in service or someone in parts? Because the dealership I normally go to has a good service dept. but the people at the counter in parts are pretty hopeless (like the last time I tried to order my MT75's there, and the guy kept telling me that they didn't order Pirellis, even though I kept telling him that I got them there, at that exact parts counter... sigh... You can't have everything, I guess. lol...)

Last Thursday I rode my Little Kid on the Blast like 300 miles 2up to go test ride a XB12. What a monster! Had a race kit on it, I am too old, a 9 would be just fine all I need. It musta been funny seeing the Little Kid on the back at over 200lbs and me only 165! I had a great time anyways.

You must have had that suspension almost bottomed out! LOL. I hope you didn't drive home in the dark, the head light would have been aimed right in the eyes of the semi-drivers. ; )
