Bike is pretty sweet as is. Im personally not a fan of trikes in any form.

I can think of only two exceptions...

1. A severe injury causes disability- (Think IED blast)
2. Aging to the point where you don't have great balance but still want to ride.

Better option- Sidecar!

I prefer a sidecar myself but if he wants to go trike go with independent rear suspension.
The crap HD is selling sucks to ride, might as well ride a serviecar, technology is the same.

I asked a local independent shop owner what my well equipped '07 Dyna might bring if I sold it, after buying my first Buell earlier this year.

His advice: If you want to make any money on it, convert it to a trike.
Trikes are selling, older twin cam Dynas are being given away.

I haven't done so as I have concerns about financing availability for a purchaser and liability for me.

Thanks for the heads up, He did end up going with a lehman kit. I didnt know how it would effect the resale. Thats good to hear and makes me feel better about it. Ill post up a picture when its done.

Yea insurance is higher, the kit is expensive. But he got a good deal on the bike. and it is in perfect mechanical order.

That trike looks OK, but does it still have the stock Superglide rake? It probably needs to be raked out to make it handle better.

Being an engineer at heart, I never quite understood the cruiser trike obsession, other than to keep riding but the handling has to suck?

Watching my wife tip her ninja over a few times because her left leg/side has become weak from m.s. definitely changed my vision even more. Went with a Spyder though because the 2 front tires just seems to make more sense (from an engineering perspective).
Always appreciated people doing whatever it takes to continue enjoying their passion of riding, probably just a little more now.

I did see this recently on Jay Leno's Garage webcast: https://www.tiltingmotorworks.com/
Not cheap by any means but it is also bolt on so bike could be changed back to oem setup rather easily.
I'll likely continue buying Spyders but if I wanted a cruiser trike, I'd save up for this.

I've seen that tilt bike from Jay Leno's YT page. They are very cool bikes. I've never ridden a spyder but I imagine it would be a lot of fun. They do seem more stable in the corners.

The tilt kit is the only one I've seen that maintains the motorcycle lean and feel.

Spyders are neat but definitely different. I have a RS which is more like riding a sporty 4 wheeler. Auto cancel blinkers, paddle shifting, single foot brake (hand conversion available), abs, stability control, trunk, and reverse....all this makes you lazy. Some have cruise control, stereo, air rear shock, etc.
The F3 is more cruiser like with lower seating position, plus it has the 1330cc triple. I think that might be our next one. Just not ready for the huge RT although it is the ultimate touring machine.

A friend has a piaggio. if I were going the 3 wheel route that'd be my choice...His wife rides it mostly but he states that it's a really cool machine because they still ride motorbike like and at 500cc it still has decent enough power.

It should be a crime to turn a bike into a trike.
Use a car.

Built an S3 into a trike. Love it. Strong, looks good, great price.
Over 30,000 miles on trike kit. One recommendation is to build a belt guard like I did. Had to replace the belt because a rock put a hole in it.

Some of our build notes;
http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/47623/395401.html

FYI: Stock belt broke right across a rib which runs across the back. Can not trust that style.
Found at JP Cycle the following for our S3 trike, "BDL Falcon Carbon Fiber Belt", (602-610 139T 1-1/8" CARBON FIBER BELT).
Pully forced a rock into it and kept going for over 1000 miles, after which I replaced the belt. Belt is still good, just has a hole in it. Keeping as a spare.
