I drop my camera at Columbia . . into Nikon for major overhaul . . . not ready . . . Rkc00 goes to check on it . . . he'll pick it up and bring to Homecoming . . . meanwhile . . . head to his place . . meet in Starbuck's parking lot . . borrow (yeah baby . . one of his D3's) . . head home and who's sitting down the block? One of the neighbors who happens to be a hobbyist . . . . this is what he does in his spare time . . and fairly well I'd suggest.

For bonus points see if you can spot (there is one) the non-stock part on this . . . he went to great lengths to use OEM parts . .

Enjoy.

NOTE: RT and Bomber . . lean back so you don't drool in the keyboard.

Are those cigarette filters in the fuel lines?

Wow, that is really nice! Looks like it's never been run--does it have oil & gas in it?

I've looked hard at all the pics (yes, I did drool, just a little) and the only things I can see that might not be stock are (1) the horn (I remember them as being black) (2) the speedo drive or (3) the primary cover (I don't remember seeing the Triumph logo cast with that much detail).

Did I win a prize or something?

Strongly resisting the temptation to get another old Brit now that my Norton is gone...)

I'm not authority . . . but I was lusting over this thing and this guy, who lives about a stone's throw from me . . . restores these things for folks.

The one thing that was really eeeckking him about not being genuine OEM were the screws that attach the levers. In the photo you see a Phillips head. The OEM were a straight head. He told me, try as he may, that you simply couldn't get them tight enough.

All the hardware is Whitworth. The more I looked at it . . . the more amazing it was.

Another odd thing just happened . . . and it seems a nice suit and tie and a REALLY big camera go a long way.

I have one of Rkc00's D3 Nikons . . which cost more than the sum total of all my cameras and bikes combined. . . and went for a walk today.

I was wandering around Stuyvesant Park shooting some photos of the old wrought iron fence and some of the architecture when a burly park worker walked up and said "are you the inspector?"

What the heck I thought . . . flashed my company photo I.D. on my belt under my coat and told him "yes, I am. Did someone tell you I was coming?"

He said that someone at morning roll call had told him some inspectors were making the rounds. So I told him . . "as long as I'm here, you wanna show me around?" and he loaded me in a John Deere golf cart looking thing and drove me around as I took photos.

We got back to his little maintenance hut and I told him . . . "I have to tell you . . I'm not accustomed to finding things this ship shape so you likely won't be seeing me for a while". We shook hands and off I went.

Nice guy.

That bike is gorgeous! Your neighbor is a true artist - that is the nicest triumph resto ever.

Nice tie, dude.

I was going to say that the little 'friendship bracelet' braided thingy on the left bar was the only non-stock item. I've been accused of being a bit screwy, so I didn't see anything untoward regarding the Phillips head units.

Stuyvesant Park photos coming soon?

Al, on the left coast
